We used the new laser pointers alongside our acrylic prisms to investigate ray tracing and the behavior of light. Students were able to visualize how light bends through different shapes and applied ray tracing rules to predict light paths. One student said, \"Now I finally get how glasses work!\"\r\n\r\nSeeing the lasers light up the paths of the rays made abstract concepts click in a real, tangible way. This activity sparked excitement and curiosity—students were engaged, asking deeper questions, and collaborating to test their predictions. These materials didn't just help us meet academic goals—they inspired scientific thinking and confidence.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using the prisms and laser pointers to perform a lab on Snell's Law. Students will measure angles of incidence and refraction to calculate the index of refraction for acrylic, deepening their understanding of how light interacts with matter. Your donation continues to make meaningful, lasting impacts on student learning.","fullyFundedDate":1742448976766,"projectUrl":"project/illuminate-learning-with-the-ray-optics/9145804/","projectTitle":"Illuminate Learning with the Ray Optics Kit!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Ryan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9910408"},{"teacherId":9910408,"projectId":9143825,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our physics classroom! Your support provided us with the Economy Magnet Kit and the Kinetic Magnetics Wave Wires Magnet Station resources that have brought our unit on magnetism to life. \r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they couldn't wait to test out and explore what objects around the classroom were magnetic. They immediately began investigating everything from whiteboards to sinks to the undersides of their chairs, excited to apply their curiosity in a hands-on way.\r\n\r\nWe used the kits during a lesson on magnetic fields and attraction vs. repulsion. Students mapped magnetic field lines using iron filings, and the wave wires station helped them visualize how magnetic forces can produce motion. The excitement and engagement in the room were contagious, and students made strong connections to real-world technologies like motors and magnetic levitation.\r\n\r\nNext Steps:\r\n\r\nWe're preparing to explore electromagnetic induction next, using these tools to investigate how moving magnets can generate electric currents. These experiences are laying the foundation for deeper understanding in upcoming lessons on electricity and engineering.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our students are not just hearing about science they're doing science.
