We are using these materials during small group sessions, individual check ins, and classroom based SEL lessons to practice coping skills, emotional awareness, and problem solving. The flexible seating options have allowed students to choose seating that supports their comfort and focus, which has led to longer engagement and improved participation. One moment that stood out was watching students independently choose a calming tool and a flexible seating option when they felt overwhelmed and successfully return to learning. This project has directly impacted students' ability to focus, participate, and remain present in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and curious. Many immediately asked how the items could help them focus or calm down, and several shared that they felt cared for knowing someone took the time to provide these supports. Students were especially surprised and motivated knowing the materials came from Kamau's Big Student Surprise, which helped them feel seen, valued, and supported beyond their school community.\r\n\r\nThe food donations have also made a meaningful impact on student learning. These items are being used to support students who come to school hungry or who need a snack to help regulate and focus during the day. Having access to food has reduced stress, increased engagement, and allowed students to fully participate in instruction and counseling sessions without the distraction of hunger.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials provided, I was able to expand my teaching and support in meaningful ways. I implemented targeted small groups focused on emotional regulation, incorporated flexible seating to support diverse learning needs, and used hands on tools to reinforce coping skills. These resources allowed me to meet students where they are and remove barriers to learning that previously limited their success.\r\n\r\nThe next steps include continuing to integrate these tools and flexible seating into small group counseling, reinforcing skills during Wellness Wednesday lessons, and helping students practice applying these strategies in the classroom and at home. This project has strengthened students' confidence, independence, and ability to learn, and we are incredibly grateful to Kamau's Big Student Surprise and all donors who made this impact possible.","fullyFundedDate":1764200266024,"projectUrl":"project/little-things-big-impact-helping-stude/9634619/","projectTitle":"Little Things, Big Impact: Helping Students Shine","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sanders","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10206349_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755732882060","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10206349"},{"teacherId":6206068,"projectId":9525063,"letterContent":"Thank you donors for supporting our classroom's positive behavior support initiative.
