These resources have provided students with engaging, high-quality opportunities to strengthen essential reading skills, including nonfiction comprehension, inference, context clues, and identifying the main idea.\r\n\r\nThe nonfiction reading materials have helped students become more confident readers of informational text by teaching them how to navigate text structures and features. Students are practicing how to determine the main idea and identify key supporting details, which has improved their ability to summarize, take notes, and understand what the author is truly communicating. This skill is critical for academic success across all subjects, especially in science and social studies.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, students have benefited greatly from explicit instruction and practice using context clues. Many students struggle with academic vocabulary, so these tools have helped them learn how to use surrounding words, phrases, and examples in a passage to determine unfamiliar word meanings. Students are now more willing to attempt challenging texts because they know they have strategies to help them understand new vocabulary without giving up.\r\n\r\nOur inference-focused resources have also strengthened students' deeper thinking. Students are learning to combine text evidence with what they already know to \"read between the lines.\" As a result, students are demonstrating stronger critical thinking, improved comprehension, and more detailed responses when explaining their reasoning.\r\n\r\nOverall, this project has increased student engagement and supported meaningful growth in reading skills. Students are not only enjoying reading more, but they are also developing the strategies necessary to become successful, independent readers. Thank you again for helping provide resources that are truly making a difference in students' literacy development and academic confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1764625826202,"projectUrl":"project/improving-reading-comprehension-in-innov/9711910/","projectTitle":"Improving Reading Comprehension in Innovative Ways","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thiele","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9636411_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735841789534","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9636411"},{"teacherId":9636411,"projectId":9711743,"letterContent":"I am writing to share the positive impact of our project, \"Headphones for Literacy,\" and to express sincere gratitude for supporting this important student resource. Through this project, students received quality headphones along with storage bags to keep materials organized, clean, and protected. This simple tool has made a powerful difference in student learning, especially during independent reading, audio-supported instruction, and technology-based literacy activities.\r\n\r\nAccess to high-quality headphones has significantly improved students' ability to focus and fully engage in literacy learning. Students now have the opportunity to participate in audio stories, digital reading programs, fluency practice, and intervention lessons without distractions. This has created a more supportive and productive environment in the classroom, where students can listen, read along, and build comprehension skills at their own pace.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the headphones help ensure equitable access for special populations who require accommodations. Students who are Emergent Bilingual (EB), 504, or Special Education benefit greatly from having headphones available for instructional support. Many of these students rely on accommodations such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, read-aloud services, oral administration, reduced distractions, or small-group settings. Headphones allow these accommodations to be provided smoothly and respectfully, supporting student confidence while meeting individual learning needs.\r\n\r\nThe addition of storage bags has also improved responsibility and organization. Students take pride in caring for their equipment, and the bags help prevent loss or damage. Overall, this project has increased participation, improved listening comprehension, supported individualized learning, and strengthened our classroom's ability to meet student needs in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping remove barriers to literacy and learning. These headphones have made a lasting impact by supporting student success, accommodations, and a stronger learning experience for all.","fullyFundedDate":1764625826175,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-literacy/9711743/","projectTitle":"Headphones for Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Thiele","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9636411_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1735841789534","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9636411"},{"teacherId":9636411,"projectId":9713432,"letterContent":"I am writing to share the positive impact of our Relaxed Reading Station for Students and to express how meaningful this reading space has become for our learners. By adding simple comforts such as soft cushions, floor seating, and carpet space, we have created a calm, welcoming environment that encourages students to read more often and with greater focus.\r\n\r\nStudents genuinely enjoy the opportunity to sit in a comfortable area while reading. Many students express that it \"feels like home\" and makes reading less stressful and more enjoyable. This relaxed setting has increased student motivation, especially for those who may struggle with reading or have difficulty staying engaged during traditional desk time. The cushions and carpet allow students to choose seating that supports their learning style, helping them feel safe, focused, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nSince implementing the relaxed reading station, students have demonstrated improved reading stamina and stronger engagement with books. They are more willing to participate in independent reading time, take pride in their reading choices, and even discuss books with peers. This space supports not only academic growth but also the social-emotional needs of students by promoting comfort, confidence, and a positive attitude toward literacy.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting opportunities that make reading meaningful and enjoyable for students. As an English Language Arts teacher in a Title I, low-income school, I constantly seek ways to engage students who may struggle with reading motivation and comprehension. Flocabulary's dynamic and culturally responsive approach has transformed how my students interact with language. The combination of music, rhythm, visuals, and vocabulary-rich lyrics connects with learners in ways traditional methods often cannot, making reading both enjoyable and relevant to their world.\r\n\r\nSince integrating Flocabulary into our lessons, I have seen noticeable growth in student vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. Students who were once reluctant readers now actively participate, confidently using academic language and demonstrating a deeper understanding of complex texts. Beyond academic growth, Flocabulary has helped foster a classroom culture of excitement around literacy—students eagerly anticipate new lessons and even request to revisit favorite videos and quizzes. For our learners, many of whom face significant socioeconomic challenges, this tool has provided equal access to engaging, high-quality instruction that builds both skill and confidence.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting educators and students through such innovative resources. Your commitment to equitable education and literacy development continues to make a lasting difference in schools like ours.
