This book has sparked some of the most meaningful conversations we've had all year. At first, many of my students couldn't imagine connecting to a memoir set in apartheid-era South Africa—but as we read, they began to realize just how relevant Trevor Noah's experiences still are today. They were surprised to learn that we're really not that far removed from the injustices, racism, and divisions he describes. It opened their eyes to how systems of inequality show up in different ways all around us—and it helped them see the importance of understanding someone else's point of view.\r\n\r\nReading this book together has helped my students grow—not just as readers, but as people. We laughed at Trevor's humor, paused on the heavy moments, and talked about the life lessons hidden between the lines. One student said, \"It's wild how someone from a totally different world still went through stuff like we do.\" Another shared how it made them want to learn more about their own family's history. These are the kinds of connections that matter. Thanks to your support, our classroom became a space where kids didn't just read—they reflected, related, and reached for something bigger.","fullyFundedDate":1733709181778,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-curiosity-help-us-dive-into-a-c/8925352/","projectTitle":"Fueling Curiosity: Help Us Dive Into a Class Novel Study!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Borgeson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3745886"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_102928","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1472,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":37,"percentAsian":17,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"21.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":54.9,"schoolId":102928,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about James Bowie Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"James Bowie Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/fort-bend-independent-school-district/james-bowie-middle-school/102928"}
