With the new braille alphabet board, tactile books, and embosser in hand, we've been exploring the world through touch and sound in ways we couldn't before. For example, during our \"letters and textures\" activity, students used the braille alphabet board to trace letters, then matched them with tactile objects from the sensory board and touch-and-match tray. It was incredible to see them confidently point to \"A\" / \"a\" in braille, feel the raised dots, and then say the letter name aloud. These tools are helping build literacy skills AND fostering independence — the kind of empowerment that matters so much in these early years.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're ready to build on this momentum. Our next project phase will integrate the braille and tactile tools into our themed unit on \"Community and Play.\" We'll use the kitchen play set to prompt real-world vocabulary in braille (like \"fridge\", \"oven\", \"sink\"), combine it with tactile matching tasks and sensory play to strengthen language, literacy, and social-emotional skills. Students will partner up to \"prepare\" imaginary meals, label the items in braille, then describe the steps and sequence using both tactile and spoken language. With these next steps, we're not only reinforcing braille literacy — we're building meaningful connection, independence, and inclusion in every corner of our classroom. Thank you again to everyone who made this possible.
