The white boards, magnetic letters, play dough, and dry erase markers truly made a difference in my small group teaching. Having these materials allowed me to meet my students where they are and create learning experiences that felt fun, supportive, and meaningful. During small group time, I saw students become more confident and willing to try, especially when practicing letter formation and sounds.\r\n\r\nThe white boards and dry erase markers gave students the freedom to make mistakes and quickly fix them, which helped reduce frustration and build confidence. Magnetic letters allowed my students to physically move and manipulate sounds, making phonics concepts click in ways that paper and pencil activities often cannot. Using play dough added an extra layer of engagement and helped students strengthen fine motor skills while forming letters, which was especially helpful for students who need that hands-on support.\r\n\r\nBecause of these materials, my small groups felt more interactive and student-centered. I was able to better differentiate instruction, keep students focused, and create a positive learning environment where every child felt successful. These items did more than support academic skills — they helped build confidence, excitement for learning, and a love for literacy in my classroom. \r\n\r\nI am so grateful that you believe in me and my classroom!!","fullyFundedDate":1758810608998,"projectUrl":"project/growing-kindergarten-minds/9723885/","projectTitle":"Growing Kindergarten Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061015_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y160&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689182597538","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9061015"},{"teacherId":9061015,"projectId":9473142,"letterContent":"The alphabet soup cans have been an incredibly valuable addition to my small group instruction and have made a noticeable difference in my students' early literacy development. In kindergarten, building a strong foundation in letter recognition, letter-sound correspondence, and phonemic awareness is essential, and the alphabet soup cans provided a hands-on, engaging way for students to practice these skills in a meaningful context. Because the materials were tactile and playful, students were immediately drawn to them and excited to participate during small group time. Another important benefit of the alphabet soup cans was the transfer of skills beyond small group time. Students began to recognize letters more quickly during reading and writing activities, and many showed increased confidence when attempting to spell simple words. The repeated exposure to letters in a fun and low-pressure setting helped reinforce concepts that students could then apply independently. Several students who initially struggled with letter identification made significant progress after consistent practice with the alphabet soup cans.\r\n\r\n I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to incorporate these materials into my classroom, as they have helped create meaningful learning experiences that support student growth, confidence, and success in early reading.","fullyFundedDate":1753289942242,"projectUrl":"project/stirring-up-a-love-for-letters-with-alph/9473142/","projectTitle":"Stirring Up a Love for Letters With Alphabet Soup!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061015_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y160&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689182597538","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9061015"},{"teacherId":9061015,"projectId":9414997,"letterContent":"This phonics games project has had a meaningful and lasting impact on my students' learning, particularly within my small group instruction. As a kindergarten teacher, I work with students who come to me at very different developmental levels in early literacy. Some students enter school already recognizing letter sounds and beginning to blend words, while others are just starting to understand that letters represent sounds. The phonics games provided through this project helped bridge those gaps in a way that was engaging, accessible, and effective for all learners.\r\n\r\nOne of the most significant impacts on student learning was the increase in engagement and confidence during phonics instruction. Because the materials were game-based and hands-on, students were excited to participate rather than feeling overwhelmed or discouraged. Many of my students who previously struggled with phonics concepts became more willing to take risks, try new sounds, and participate in discussions during small groups. The games allowed students to practice letter recognition, phoneme isolation, blending, and segmenting in a low-pressure environment where learning felt fun rather than intimidating. Over time, I saw noticeable growth in their ability to apply these skills during reading and writing activities.\r\n\r\nThe phonics games also supported differentiated instruction, which is essential in a kindergarten classroom. With the materials provided, I was able to tailor my small group lessons more intentionally to meet individual student needs. Some groups focused on mastering basic letter sounds, while others worked on blending CVC words or manipulating sounds within words. Because the games were versatile and easy to adjust, I could use the same materials across multiple skill levels without losing instructional value. This flexibility allowed me to maximize instructional time and ensure that each student was working at an appropriate level of challenge.\r\n\r\nIn my teaching, the materials helped me accomplish more focused and effective small group instruction. I was able to move away from relying solely on worksheets and instead provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. The games encouraged collaboration, peer discussion, and immediate feedback, which strengthened students' understanding of phonics concepts. I also noticed that students began transferring skills practiced during games into independent reading, writing, and literacy center activities. This transfer of learning showed me that the games were not just engaging, but truly impactful in building foundational reading skills.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the consistency of using these phonics games helped establish clear routines during small group time. Students knew what was expected, felt confident navigating the materials, and were able to focus more deeply on learning. This structure improved classroom management during small groups and allowed me to spend more time providing targeted support and feedback rather than redirecting behavior.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to the Chesmar Foundation for making this project possible. Their support provided high-quality instructional materials that directly benefited my students and strengthened my phonics instruction. Because of the Chesmar Foundation's generosity, my students were given the tools they needed to build strong literacy foundations during a critical stage of their academic development. The impact of these phonics games will continue to support my teaching and my students' learning for years to come, and I am thankful for the opportunity to see such positive growth as a result of this project.","fullyFundedDate":1752361574874,"projectUrl":"project/fun-with-phonics/9414997/","projectTitle":"Fun With Phonics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061015_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y160&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689182597538","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9061015"},{"teacherId":9061015,"projectId":9506151,"letterContent":"Our new classroom rug has completely transformed our learning space!
