First, I want to thank you for the books. My students are living in the testing era, and for many of them, the deep discussions we had about \"The Metamorphosis\" was the first of I hope many in their academic lives. As a former English major and current English teacher, I know that I am biased, but I think that the critical thinking skills that they are learning by looking deeply at texts are going to be some that serve them throughout their lives. \r\n\r\nWhen we were finished with the text, all of my students wrote papers about \"The Metamorphosis\". Some compared it to classic fairy tales. Others looked at how Grete changed over the course of the book. One girl's hatred of Gregor's sister was so incandescent she will still start ranting if you say the name Grete. I think there is nothing like the first time you throw a book in a rage because a character is doing something so infuriating. Other students followed the use of a symbol in the book like the violin, the apple or Gregor's door. Some looked at how food or Herr Samsa's uniform was used as a motif throughout the story while others looked at what was left unexplained and why. Honestly, it was beautiful. And it happened because they could engage with a beautifully translated paper book that was provided by you. \r\n\r\nNext semester, we are digging into the modern plays that your funding provided. We are going to do reader's theater, and students will have a choice of what play they engage with. Giving students a choice in what they read is so critical for learning, and something that can be very rare in Texas schools in the year of our lord 2024. \r\n\r\nThe books are amazing, and so is everything else that your donation provided. A student who forgot their charger at home can do work because now I have a bucket of 10 chargers to share. To be fully transparent, there are four chargers left, and I don't begrudge those wandering electronics. The charging blocks that I can put around my room do the same thing. Even seemingly small things like having more than enough Kleenex and paper towels for the room make students feel cared for. \r\n\r\nAnd on a personal note, I want to thank you for supporting me in my career which is both new and old. I love my students. I love teaching high school English to these underserved geniuses. What joy it brings when I hear one of them tell another that Gregor has \"gone buggy\" or to hear them argue that what the narrator in \"The Fall of the House of Usher\" should have done is never go to that house in the first place. I love it here.
