I had never participated in DonorsChoose before because I was not sure what to expect and really was not sure of the likelihood of my requested items being funded, but this year I stepped out on faith. There's an indescribable feeling receiving an email stating your list has been funded. \r\n\r\nThe items I asked for were intentionally selected to help me create an environment where both students and staff felt calm, and I could get organized. Already, students have sat on the bench and shared their worries, staff members have spent a few moments to calm themselves with the sequined wall, the unicorn light has mesmerized students, and the whiteboard helps me remain organized. While these items may seem insignificant, helping my older kids improve their hygiene with body wipes, ensuring I have enough glitter so every student receives at least one activity with sparkles, and sanitizer to make sure we all stay safe - everything matters.\r\n\r\nSo again, thank you for thinking of us and generously donating to our cause.","fullyFundedDate":1749493545300,"projectUrl":"project/igniting-the-spark/9394396/","projectTitle":"Igniting the SPARK!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Sparkle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-sparkle"},{"teacherId":10049218,"projectId":9393698,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support! I just started conducting guidance lessons in September, but have already used some of the materials you funded. The items I requested are going to be used as consumables in my guidance lessons. \r\n\r\nFor example, the focus for September in my school district was School Pride. My guidance lessons focused on students supporting each other and creating an environment where everyone feels included. We read the story, \"The Invisible Boy\", and we talked about how the child in the story was not really invisible, but constantly overlooked. Our craft involved the puzzles and ink stampers. Each student wrote their name across their puzzle, and then all of their classmates left their mark on their puzzles. The students enjoyed the concept and having their own puzzle to take home as a reminder of how each piece matters and everyone is included.\r\n\r\nAgain, this is just September; throughout the course of the year, the items funded will be used to leave my students with either a tangible finished product or provide them with a hands-on activity to reinforce the concepts taught. Unlike many classroom teachers, I see students starting at age 4 all the way to 11 years old, so the books and social-emotional tools received have been/will be pivotal in helping me reach them where they are. I average around 50 guidance lessons a month and meet with students in between those lessons to check in and see how they are doing. When kids cannot express themselves verbally or know how to identify their feelings, books come in handy. \r\n\r\nIt is difficult and, honestly, not really best practice to tell someone how they feel, but when I read a story and my students can identify traits and behaviors in the characters that seem relatable, discussions happen, and emotional intelligence deepens. The books selected focus on building self-esteem, developing healthy boundaries, including others, and being considerate - all skills important to nurture in our students.\r\n\r\nWords cannot accurately express my appreciation for your generosity, but just know you are a difference maker!","fullyFundedDate":1750692336249,"projectUrl":"project/sparkle-like-me/9414426/","projectTitle":"Sparkle Like Me!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Sparkle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dr-sparkle"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9484","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1014,"numTeachers":65,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":23,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":54,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.3,"schoolId":9484,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Matzke Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Matzke Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/cypress-fairbanks-independent-school-district/matzke-elementary-school/9484"}
