Through engaging stories and vibrant illustrations, students are learning to make predictions, retell events in sequence, and identify story elements like characters and setting. Many of the texts also introduce new vocabulary and themes such as kindness, friendship, and perseverance, while nonfiction titles spark curiosity and give children chances to ask and answer questions about the world around them.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading takes many different forms. We enjoy daily read-alouds where students join in with predictions and connections, as well as small-group guided reading that targets their specific needs. Students also love exploring the classroom library independently and reading with partners to build fluency and confidence. The new collection of books has made reading feel exciting and accessible, offering something for every learner.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have already found special joy in the new books. One emerging reader is thrilled to discover patterned texts and sight words he can recognize, while another animal-loving student gravitates to the nonfiction selections and eagerly shares fun facts with classmates. A quieter child, who often listens more than she speaks, has been inspired to join discussions after connecting with characters in her favorite story. These books are helping all of my students see themselves as readers—and that joy is spreading throughout our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1754878339249,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-library-for-little-readers/9490362/","projectTitle":"Building a Library for Little Readers!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Flores","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5504675_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1551109890893","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-wheeleragriculture"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132014","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":600,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":132014,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Mary Lou Dodson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Mary Lou Dodson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/community-independent-school-district/mary-lou-dodson-elementary-school/132014"}
