The journals have given them a sense of ownership and confidence in their learning. Each day, they eagerly use them to practice writing sounds and spelling, and it has become a consistent and joyful part of our routine. They take pride in their work, and it is wonderful to see how motivated they are to write and share their ideas.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the journals and books, students are noticeably more excited about coming to my class. They look forward to using their materials and feel empowered as readers and writers. This excitement has carried over into other parts of the day, creating a more positive and engaged learning environment overall.\r\n\r\nThe students especially love their books, the Percy Jackson series. Knowing that the main character has dyslexia has helped them make a strong personal connection to the story. These resources have truly made a lasting impact on their confidence, engagement, and love of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1762525198669,"projectUrl":"project/team-awesome-rocking-reading-our-way/9863050/","projectTitle":"Team Awesome: Rocking Reading, Our Way!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pape","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10237783"},{"teacherId":10005945,"projectId":9677433,"letterContent":"Using multi-sensory materials -including smelly markers, Pluffle, squishy alphabet, letters, and glittery pens- was intentionally incorporated into my small group to support engagement, memory, and phonological awareness. These materials are used during phoneme-grapheme mapping, letter formation practice, and word building activities to provide tactile, visual, and sensory input that supports students with dyslexia.\r\n\r\n When students were introduced to the materials, their reactions were overwhelmingly positive. They showed immediate excitement and curiosity, eagerly exploring the textures, scents, and visual appeal of the tools. Some of my hesitant students increased their participation, sustained attention, and were willing to attempt some challenging activities with the new materials. Several students showed enthusiasm and some off task behaviors decreased with the hands-on task.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to be integrated strategically to reinforce structured literacy instructions. We will use the squishy alphabet and Pluffle for phoneme segmentation, blending and spelling practice. We will incorporate the glittery pens and markers to increase motivation during writing and encoding tasks. Overall, the use of engaging multi-sensory materials positively impacted student engagement and learning, supporting the unique needs of students with dyslexia and fostering a more confident and successful literary experience.","fullyFundedDate":1764784480903,"projectUrl":"project/learning-the-alphabet-through-multisenso/9677433/","projectTitle":"Learning the Alphabet Through Multisensory Tools","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brobston","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10005945_orig.jpg?crop=240,240,x0,y60&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745600172810","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10005945"},{"teacherId":10233779,"projectId":9666364,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in helping bring our classroom project to life. Your gift has opened up a world of stories, voices, and learning opportunities that are already making a big difference in our students' lives.\r\nIn our classroom, reading is more than just turning pages—it's about building skills and confidence, especially for students who face reading challenges like dyslexia. These new texts are helping us focus on key literacy skills such as decoding, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, and reading stamina. Many of the books you helped provide are written with accessible language and structured text features, making them a perfect fit for our multisensory reading approach.\r\nWe do a lot of interactive read-alouds, where students discuss characters' choices, make predictions, and connect themes to their own lives—all with the help of these amazing new books.\r\nYour support has not only filled our shelves but helped spark a genuine love for reading in students who once found it overwhelming as they learn to accept being dyslexic. Because of your kindness, my students now have access to a variety of multisensory learning tools that are making a real difference in how they engage with reading, writing, and spelling.\r\n We've been using the new resources daily, especially during our spelling dictation, blending, and dictionary section. One standout moment came during a recent lesson on phoneme segmentation. Using tactile letter stamps and playdough, my students were not only able to hear and say the sounds—they could see and feel them too. This hands-on approach is helping them make critical connections that are often difficult for students with dyslexia.\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement in the room was contagious. That moment reminded me how powerful the right tools can be when placed in the hands of eager learners.\r\n Looking ahead, we're diving deeper into decoding where students will use the multisensory tools to blend sounds and build words. Our next steps include building words with the glow boards. It's amazing to watch their confidence grow as they discover that learning can be both accessible and fun.\r\n Your support has brought joy, confidence, and real progress to a group of students who truly deserve it.
