I have been using the materials daily. For my students that are in PK and blind a favorite activity is using the Braille letter tiles for reviewing letters then using the muffin tin as the Braille cell and the balls as the dots to practice making alphabet letters. We follow the activity often with reading a Braille book. For the students that are blind I create tactile worksheets using hot glue sticks, puff paint, glitter glue, tactile stickers, and sometimes more. This creates a more interactive learning experience for them. The textured calming stickers are used to mark locations in the room they feel for them to help them know where to stop or turn. I have also used foam stickers as reward sticker because they can feel the shapes and enjoy them. \r\nFor my low vision students, they like the tactile stickers as well and like having them on their desk or Chromebooks especially the calming ones. The large magnifier is a new favorite for a low vision student to use on classwork. The middle and high school students like the low vision pens and prefer them to pencils that I provide because they are easer to see and read what they write. \r\nI have definitely enjoyed the extra materials so far this school year to add more meaning to students lessons. My students have definitely benefited from the materials. I am looking forward to making more tactile materials and using all the new things available to me.","fullyFundedDate":1748029201648,"projectUrl":"project/braille-and-low-vision-supplies/9335286/","projectTitle":"Braille and Low Vision Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Vernon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10028022_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754929960520","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10028022"},{"teacherId":7257292,"projectId":9279786,"letterContent":"My students have loved the switches to communicate during calendar time and circle time! My students loved all of the braille and tactile items you donated. Your donation empowered our classroom as we all learned some braille. We are excited to keep learning this year. The letter and number tiles were used each day during circle time and direct instruction time. It was awesome to see so much growth in one of my students using the tiles. By the end of the year they knew almost half of the braille alphabet. My students were very excited when they received the materials, I was able to order. With your contributions I was able to get some new books for my classroom as well as sensory toys, bean bags, and items to use as positive reinforcement. We also received storage bins so that I have been able to more easily store the items my students like to play with in my room instead of the room down the hall. \r\nThe items that have had the greatest impact are the fuzzy bean bag and the weighted dog I was able to get. With these items I have been able to help several of my students remain in control when their emotions start to get to be too much for them. The magnetic boxes have also helped my students use their daily visual schedules more efficiently, as what I had before kept falling off.","fullyFundedDate":1726760122809,"projectUrl":"project/safe-classroom-environment/8417248/","projectTitle":"Safe Classroom Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Gartrell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9553302_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1716295517235","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9553302"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8566","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":532,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":66,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.8,"schoolId":8566,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cooke Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cooke Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/cleburne-independent-school-district/cooke-elementary-school/8566"}
