We are using them in our new mindfulness break space, where students can come during lunch to reset, regulate, and refocus. The cushions help create a calming environment where movement is welcomed as part of stress relief and focus.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing students teach each other how to combine mindful breathing with gentle movement on the cushions. Their laughter quickly turned into calm focus, which showed me how naturally they took ownership of the space.\r\n\r\nThe next step is expanding this into our \"Mindful Moments\" initiative, where my students will lead sessions for younger peers and staff. They'll use the cushions to model simple strategies that promote focus, balance, and emotional regulation. Thanks to your support, this project has already grown beyond our classroom—it's becoming a schoolwide effort to build a culture of care and mindfulness.","fullyFundedDate":1746806233194,"projectUrl":"project/focus-in-motion-a-mindful-space-for-lun/9298468/","projectTitle":"Focus in Motion: A Mindful Space for Lunch Breaks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Linda Tolman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8185406_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637318580841","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tolman"},{"teacherId":8185406,"projectId":9146803,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, we've been able to provide feminine hygiene products in our classroom's \"care corner\"—a discreet, judgment-free space where students can grab what they need without having to ask or feel embarrassed. One powerful moment was when a student quietly said, \"I didn't want to miss class again because I didn't have anything... thank you for this.\" This small gesture has created a ripple of empowerment and dignity, especially for our young women navigating school, adolescence, and life's daily curveballs.\r\nAt first, there were surprised glances and lots of quiet gratitude. Then, a few brave students said what everyone was thinking: \"This is amazing—finally someone gets it.\" The atmosphere shifted immediately. Knowing their needs were thought of made them feel seen and valued. It sparked conversations about self-care, advocacy, and supporting one another, which is everything I want our AVID classroom to stand for.\r\nWe're currently diving into real-world problem solving, and the presence of this project has inspired several students to brainstorm ways to support other basic needs in our school community. A group is even exploring a service project centered around creating hygiene kits for others. The seeds you planted with this donation are growing into a mindset of service and empathy—and I couldn't be more proud.","fullyFundedDate":1742078256651,"projectUrl":"project/its-that-day/9146803/","projectTitle":"It's THAT Day","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Linda Tolman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8185406_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1637318580841","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tolman"},{"teacherId":8185406,"projectId":8823746,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support in providing new books for our students! The impact of these texts has been incredible, and I'm excited to share a glimpse into what reading looks like in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, my students are developing critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis skills. We explore themes of leadership, decision-making, and perspective shifts, as seen in their work on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and paradigm shifts in history. These texts encourage students to connect literature to real-world applications, helping them understand how ideas evolve over time.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and collaborative. Students engage in discussions, create visual representations of their understanding and work together to analyze the lessons within each text. Rather than simply reading for comprehension, they are making connections, debating perspectives, and applying these lessons to their own lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting aspects of these new books is seeing students who previously weren't engaged in reading find something that resonates with them. Some students have taken a strong interest in discussing historical misconceptions, while others have enjoyed exploring personal growth through literature. It's rewarding to watch their confidence grow as they express their insights through projects like these.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped create an environment where reading is not just an assignment but an experience.
