Most importantly, they discovered joy in learning and confidence in what they can achieve. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, our students were able to see STEM come to life in ways that inspired curiosity and excitement. We sincerely appreciate the trust and support our donors have shown us, providing us with kitchen goods and a classroom set of headphones. We have prepared two simple, nutritious, and delicious meals. Each of the students is working to master this goal.\r\n\r\nThe students and I discussed the first meal we would prepare in our new kitchenware. We decided on homemade spaghetti with meatballs, corn on the cob, garlic bread, and Kool-Aid. They were allowed to use the internet to find recipes and listen to the instructions with the new headphones.\r\n\r\nOur second meal was hot dogs with chili and cheese. The students learned how to store the leftovers for their lunch the next day, get two meals out of one simple recipe, and learned how taking their lunch to work would save money. All of these small things are making huge impacts on the lives of my students as they learn employability and transitional living.\r\nThe students' enthusiasm was infectious as we discussed the first meal we would make in our new pots. We then made a shopping list and went to the grocery store. The students' learning was evident as they located items, selected the best-priced items, learned how to read the labels, and calculated how much of each item we needed. These skills will enable them to live healthy, successful lives, and we couldn't have done it without your support.\r\nIf the students could not agree on an item, we took a vote. The students had to accept that sometimes you do not get what you want. We had a fun time shopping, eating, cleaning, and learning. \r\nThanks to your generosity, my students' lives will forever be impacted. We will continue to provide more opportunities for our students to learn and grow. I am so blessed to facilitate this for my students. We discussed how these pots and pans will impact future special needs students. Your support is appreciated as we continue making a difference in these students' lives.","fullyFundedDate":1739371107362,"projectUrl":"project/18-plus-program/9070872/","projectTitle":"18-Plus Program","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Weary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9834809"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_124080","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":316,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":87,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":55,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":45.5,"schoolId":124080,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Collegiate Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Collegiate Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/beaumont-independent-school-district/early-college-high-school/124080"}
