These books are more than just stories—they are powerful tools that help students grow as readers, thinkers, and individuals.\r\nCharlotte's Web introduced students to themes of friendship, compassion, and empathy, helping them understand the importance of kindness and connection. We were also able to watch the movie and see a play. This allowed students to compare all three forms of storytelling. We were also able to bridge the concepts as the movie and play were in English and the book was in Spanish. \r\n\r\nMy Name Is María Isabel allowed students to explore identity, culture, and the significance of names, creating meaningful opportunities for students to see themselves reflected in literature while also learning about others. \r\n\r\nWith these books, students have strengthened their reading comprehension, engaged in thoughtful discussions, and developed a deeper love for reading.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students' learning and helping us build a classroom where every child can connect, grow, and thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1764623083826,"projectUrl":"project/developing-avid-readers-providing-quali/9592327/","projectTitle":"Developing Avid Readers: Providing Quality Novels for Our Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8466192_orig.png?crop=384,384,x0,y81&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737773116698","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8466192"},{"teacherId":10163858,"projectId":9942406,"letterContent":"Students used the donated books as meaningful tools to strengthen both their reading and writing skills. As they explored the texts, they practiced summarizing by identifying key ideas and retelling important parts in their own words. They also engaged in labeling pictures and drawing scenes from the stories, which helped them visualize and better understand the content. By examining text features such as titles, headings, captions, and illustrations, students were able to gather information and support their written responses. In addition, consistent exposure to a variety of texts helped expand their vocabulary, as they encountered new words in context and practiced using them during reading and writing activities, ultimately improving their overall reading fluency and comprehension.\r\nThroughout these activities, students worked on expressing their thoughts clearly while incorporating academic vocabulary. They analyzed the author's purpose, determining whether the text was meant to inform, entertain, or persuade, and used this understanding to explain their ideas in writing. They also identified elements like setting and discussed how the time and place influenced the story, allowing them to make deeper connections. By combining drawing, labeling, and written responses, students demonstrated comprehension in multiple ways. This approach not only strengthened their literacy skills but also encouraged critical thinking, as they used evidence from the text to support their explanations and communicated their ideas with greater confidence and clarity.","fullyFundedDate":1765988188731,"projectUrl":"project/stronger-readers/9942406/","projectTitle":"Stronger Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tippins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10163858"},{"teacherId":8466192,"projectId":9621827,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in helping our class receive the magnet kit. We use these bins to organize the math manipulatives students use in the classroom. Students have easy access to them and are able to grab them as needed. Part of this project also included place value whiteboards that have been tremendously helpful. When we first received them students were working on understanding place and learning the place values. They used these repeatedly. The place value disks are used in activities where students create/build numbers using the place value disks. This is really helpful in fourth grade as they are working with numbers into the millions.
