From the moment they first saw the Cricut machines, their excitement was immediate—they were fascinated that a digital design could be transformed into a precise, professional-quality creation. One of our most meaningful projects involved my Destination Imagination team, who used the Cricut to design custom iron-on graphics for their competition costumes. Students brainstormed themes, created digital artwork, adjusted sizing and layout for shirts, and carefully applied heat-transfer vinyl to complete their final designs. The process required collaboration, problem-solving, and attention to detail, and when they wore their self-designed shirts to competition, their pride and confidence were unmistakable.\r\n\r\nBecause of these new resources, I have been able to elevate creativity from paper-based planning to authentic production. Students are now designing custom book covers for literature projects, creating visual models for science concepts, and developing small-scale prototypes connected to our STEM challenges. The Cricut has allowed us to integrate design thinking into nearly every subject area. Next, students are working on a collaborative community-impact project where they will create informational displays and interactive materials to present their research to families and school leaders. Thanks to your generosity, our classroom is becoming a creative studio where ideas move from imagination to reality—and our students are learning that their voices and designs can make a meaningful difference.","fullyFundedDate":1757959604798,"projectUrl":"project/sparking-creativity-with-cricuts-in-the/9713789/","projectTitle":"Sparking Creativity with Cricuts in the GT Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9584494_orig.png?crop=375,375,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720236634002","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9584494"},{"teacherId":9584494,"projectId":9701251,"letterContent":"By bringing 3D printing into our Gifted & Talented classroom we have transformed the way students experience learning. While many donors may use technology at home, 3D printing in school moves beyond entertainment and into hands-on problem solving and design thinking. Students use math to calculate measurements and scale, apply science concepts to design models, and engage in the full engineering process—brainstorming, prototyping, testing, and revising. Instead of simply learning about concepts in a textbook, they create tangible models that demonstrate understanding. The printer allows abstract ideas to become physical objects, helping students make deeper connections and strengthening both critical thinking and perseverance.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students is watching their ideas come to life. They begin with a sketch or digital design, carefully build it on the computer, and then watch as the printer creates their object layer by layer. That moment when they hold their finished product is powerful. It builds confidence, ownership, and pride in their work. The classroom energy has shifted as students eagerly discuss improvements, redesign ideas, and ways to make their creations stronger or more efficient. The process teaches them that innovation requires patience and revision, and they are learning to embrace mistakes as part of growth.\r\n\r\nThis new technology has especially impacted students who may not always stand out in traditional academic tasks. Some quieter students have emerged as leaders during design challenges because of their strong spatial reasoning skills. Others who struggle with writing or verbal expression have found confidence through creating and explaining their models. Students who once became frustrated easily are developing resilience as they troubleshoot failed prints and refine their designs. The 3D printer has opened new pathways for creativity, collaboration, and confidence, showing our students that their ideas have value and that they are capable of building something meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1757819656824,"projectUrl":"project/innovating-minds-bringing-3d-printing-t/9701251/","projectTitle":"Innovating Minds: Bringing 3D Printing to Our GT Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Allison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9584494_orig.png?crop=375,375,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720236634002","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9584494"},{"teacherId":9584494,"projectId":9825315,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, reading in our classroom looks different — and feels different. Students eagerly browse the shelves, recommend books to one another, and ask for \"just one more chapter.\" What used to be quiet reading time has transformed into a space filled with curiosity, discussion, and genuine excitement.\r\n\r\nWhile many students loved reading to begin with, now the boys do too! These books do more than entertain — they build essential skills. Through novels like Ground Zero and Grenade, students analyze character motivation, resilience, and historical context. Books like Percy Jackson and The Trials of Apollo strengthen comprehension through complex plot structures, mythology references, and vocabulary development. The Wild Robot and The City of Ember introduce themes of survival, ethics, environmental awareness, and problem-solving, allowing students to make deeper connections and engage in meaningful discussion. These texts support inference, critical thinking, stamina, and rich classroom dialogue.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who once hesitated to choose chapter books are now fully immersed.
