When students can choose a book that connects to their interests, they are more willing to pick up a book, stick with a challenging text, and share what they are reading with their classmates. I have especially noticed this with students who previously viewed reading as something difficult or frustrating. Finding a book they enjoy can completely change their attitude toward reading.\r\nFor many of my students, building reading confidence is just as important as building reading skills. Our classroom books give students a chance to practice independently, build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and develop the stamina they need to tackle more complex texts.\r\nThe greatest impact has been creating a classroom where reading feels exciting rather than intimidating.
