Fifth graders created glow in the dark animal sculptures for our art show using pinch pot techniques with the Sculpey, and the excitement was instant. Sculpting is something they rarely get to do, so having real clay in their hands made the project feel special. Many students were completely absorbed in shaping tiny details, textures, and personalities into their animals, and it gave them a new level of pride in their work. We also have enough material now for several other grade levels to explore sculpture, which is a huge win for our program.\r\n\r\nThe dry erase lapboards have become a daily staple for drawing practice, quick art games, and free drawing warm ups. They have made it easier for students to jump into sketching without pressure and to practice ideas before committing to final artwork. The art games and dice have been a favorite for early finishers and during station rotations with younger grades. Students naturally gather around the table to play together, laugh, and challenge each other with fast drawing prompts. It has been such a joyful way to build creativity, collaboration, and confidence in drawing.\r\n\r\nThe classroom environment itself has also changed in a really positive way. The lamps and lighting have made a big difference in my windowless classroom, especially when we turn off the overhead lights to watch short art videos. The room feels cozy instead of dark, which helps my kindergarten students feel safe and calm. The sensory toys have become a favorite calm focus activity for students who finish early, giving them something soothing to engage with instead of becoming restless. Even small things like the stickers have had a big impact, motivating students during art observation games and rewarding positive cleanup habits. Our next steps include continuing sculpture projects with additional grade levels and building on these creative routines that help students feel excited, confident, and proud of what they make every day.","fullyFundedDate":1757883682235,"projectUrl":"project/colorful-creations-and-cozy-corners/9460852/","projectTitle":"Colorful Creations and Cozy Corners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Money","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2078266_orig.jpg?crop=2667,2667,x0,y782&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597247165631","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msmoney"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_93359","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":395,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":94,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":93359,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sullivan Gardens School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sullivan Gardens School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/sullivan-county-school-district/sullivan-elementary-school/93359"}
