As the next chair arrived, it gave two very specific incentives for getting work finished in a timely manner so that special reading time was rewarded. \r\n\r\nAn additional reward for these chairs is that the IEP inclusive students in my room have an amazing new place in the carpet for morning meeting that feels structured, supported and yet, a part of the overall structure of the class. \r\n\r\nWhat a blessing the 3 chair folders have been for our inclusive students. Extra-sensory items and a variety of playful materials for independent discovery are not only right at their chairs but also accessible to them any time they initiate them!\r\n\r\nThank you for impacting our community with such gifts. With that being said, I will try to describe a few things to convey their joy, excitement and curiousity. \r\n\r\nWhen I first explained to the classroom that someone had resourced them with a lot of new books and learning material, the classroom was silent! That may not seem like much, but with 30 students, silence doesn't happen often! \r\n\r\nI started to show them the books and resources we received. Their jaws dropped and then, they exploded into applause! When I invited them to the carpet to read our first new book together, all eyes were on me. My students were full engaged and couldn't wait to discuss our first book together. \r\n\r\nWhen our end of the day brain break came, instead of wanting to dance on the carpet, my students began to ask, \"Can we read our new books?\" During indoor recess, the same responses came, \"Can we read?\" \r\n\r\nWhat joy to have new reading materials that excite the minds of curious learners!
