We use our notebooks for a mix of Bell work, Exit tickets, writing to check for understanding as well as a place to develop and expand their knowledge of specific skills. This project has also provided them with a break from their constant use of technology (school provided Chromebooks). \r\n\r\nWith the use of notebooks specifically for Social Studies, students have a reliable space for Social Studies activities that reduces waste, and ensures that students are completing activities. This project has allowed students to practice with formatting pages, labeling activities and keeping notes in order by date, chapter, or topic. \r\n\r\nStudents have also developed writing skills and confidence through their writing. Having designated notebooks, has helped students develop a routine when entering the class allowing them to start their thinking process immediately when they see a question on the board. Since students are developing a routine of thinking, it has allowed them to be more confident in their ability to answer questions. Multiple students are eager to share their responses, and look forward to being called on. \r\n\r\nThis project has allowed my students to grow in their abilities and their confidence, and taught them the important skill of note taking. The season was a complete success just by having a team to participate. The Lady Eagles learned not only valuable life skills through competition but learned to trust and rely on their team mates. Thanks to your support, our sixth-grade students have been able to study and perform using authentic steel drums—a vibrant instrument with deep roots in the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.\r\nThis addition to our classroom has transformed both our instruction and our students' engagement. Through our new steel drum curriculum, students are not only learning to read and perform music but are also discovering the rich cultural history behind these instruments. Our lessons combine music, history, and geography, helping students appreciate the global connections that make music so powerful.\r\nRecently, our sixth graders had the opportunity to perform at a local Heritage Festival, where they showcased what they've learned by performing \"Are You Sleeping, Brother John\" in both English and French. Some students played the melody on the steel drums, others layered in harmony, and a few accompanied on ukulele and djembe, while the rest of the class sang. It was a joyful, collaborative performance that celebrated unity through music and reflected the heart of our growing program.\r\nFor many of our students, this was their first live performance and their first experience learning music from another culture. The pride on their faces and the excitement in their voices reminded all of us why this work matters.
