Because of your generosity, my students now have access to a beautifully refreshed space that includes new bean bag chairs, weighted plush animals, breathing technique signs, and a variety of new calming toys designed to support their emotional regulation and well-being.\r\n\r\nThe impact of this upgrade was immediate. When my students first saw the new items, their excitement and curiosity were evident—several of them rushed to try out the bean bags, while others gravitated toward the plush animals or began exploring the breathing visuals. This joyful reaction showed just how much they value having a space that belongs to them and meets their needs. Since then, the Calming Corner has quickly become a daily tool for our classroom. Students use it to take short breaks when they are overwhelmed, practice calming strategies using the visual supports, or simply hold a weighted plush to find comfort before returning to their work.\r\n\r\nAlready, I have noticed significant benefits. Students are more confident in recognizing their emotions and are learning to independently choose coping strategies that work best for them. The ability to self-regulate not only helps them feel safe and supported but also allows them to return to lessons more focused and ready to learn. This is especially meaningful for my group of students, as social-emotional growth is just as important as academic progress in their development.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to integrate the Calming Corner into our daily social-emotional learning lessons. Students will practice mindfulness, coping strategies, and self-regulation skills using the new visuals and tools, giving them opportunities to apply what they are learning in real time. My hope is that these strategies will not only support them in the classroom but also empower them to carry these skills into other areas of their lives.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has provided more than just materials—you've given my students the gift of a safe, supportive environment where they can build lifelong skills of resilience and self-awareness. I am deeply grateful for your kindness and for making this project possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746785973211,"projectUrl":"project/no-chaos-a-calm-and-safe-space/9266838/","projectTitle":"No Chaos: A Calm and Safe Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jessica","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9520973_orig.jpg?crop=1280,1280,x0,y17&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745426889298","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9520973"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42225","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1110,"numTeachers":58,"percentFrplEligible":6,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.8,"schoolId":42225,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Farragut Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Farragut Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/knox-county-schools/farragut-intermediate-school/42225"}
