Best of all, some of the most reluctant readers gravitate to this genre. They laugh, they cry and most importantly, they read. The Bruce book in particular has caused a few Rock, Paper Scissors contests to determine who could check it out first. Kids have been begging for the Wild Robot book and asking me to hold it for them. Some of these kids are in 5th grade and usually only want to read novels, but are such big fans that they want the picture book too. Don't Trust Fish has been another big favorite with the students. In fact I checked out four books on this list already this week.\r\nThank you so much for getting the students excited about reading. There is something about seeing a brand new book that piques their interest. Some students were excited to see the additions to the Zoe and Sassafras series. A student lost the second book at the beginning of last year and the kids were thrilled to see the replacement and the other new titles. \r\nWhen I showed off the Miles book, a student told the class about how much he loved that series. That made the other kids want to check out all the books the first day they were ready. \r\nJose and el Perro books are great for our kids who want to learn a little Spanish or are Spanish speaking kids to see themselves and their language in books. \r\nAdding these diverse books to the library allows these kids to see themselves and others in books.
