It's truly inspiring to see the impact of your gift every single day.\r\n While many of you are avid readers yourselves, you may not know what goes into teaching a new book! These new texts aren't just great stories; they are powerful tools for teaching essential literacy skills. For example, the wide range of diverse, high-interest books has allowed us to focus intensely on text-to-world connections—a crucial skill where students connect what they read to current events, social issues, and real-life experiences. We've also been able to introduce more complex narrative structures, which helps students practice close reading and analysis, asking them to look beyond the plot to understand author's purpose, symbolism, and character motivation. These are the skills that will serve them well not only in their academic careers but as critical thinkers in the world.\r\n Reading in our classroom is a vibrant, active, and student-centered experience. It's no longer just quiet individual time, though that remains important. With the new variety of books, we've been able to implement reading in small groups of students who choose a text and lead their own discussions. The sheer number of options has allowed every student to find a book that feels like it was written just for them, making the act of reading a pleasure, not a task.\r\n Your gift is especially visible when we look at certain students. For a few of our more reluctant readers, having books that feature characters who look like them or come from similar backgrounds has been transformative.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in our students' education and future.","fullyFundedDate":1749571137749,"projectUrl":"project/books-for-brighter-future/9239986/","projectTitle":"Books for Brighter Future","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Minor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4254708_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1486321514007","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4254708"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92611","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1506,"numTeachers":87,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":32,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":92611,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Morristown - Hamblen High School West on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Morristown - Hamblen High School West","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/hamblen-county-school-district/morristown-hamblen-west-high-school/92611"}
