From the moment it was unrolled, the excitement and joy it brought were impossible to miss. The rug has transformed not only our classroom space but also the atmosphere and energy of our daily routines. It has provided structure, comfort, and a sense of belonging for each student, making it a truly special part of our learning environment.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts for the students has been having assigned seating on the rug. Before, finding a spot for read alouds or group lessons sometimes led to a bit of chaos as everyone tried to sit near their friends or close to the teacher. Now, with each child having their own smiley face to sit on, our transitions have become smooth and organized. The students love knowing exactly where to go during read alouds and math time, and it has created a sense of ownership and pride. Having their own special spot gives every student a feeling of importance and belonging, which is so valuable in building a positive classroom community.\r\n\r\nWe use the rug for many parts of our day—especially during read alouds and math lessons. During read alouds, the rug helps create a cozy and welcoming space where students can gather close to listen to stories. It's amazing how something as simple as a soft, colorful rug can make story time feel extra special. The children sit on their smiley faces, often hugging their knees, completely absorbed in the book. It's a time when the classroom feels calm and connected, and the rug truly sets the tone for that.\r\n\r\nDuring math time, the rug becomes a hands-on learning space. Students use their spots to work with manipulatives, share ideas, and participate in group discussions. The bright faces on the rug seem to mirror the students' excitement as they solve problems and share their thinking. Having a designated space for each child helps everyone stay focused and gives them a comfortable area to learn and collaborate.\r\n\r\nBeyond its practical uses, the smiley face rug has brought warmth and happiness to our classroom decor. The cheerful faces and bright colors instantly lift everyone's mood. Many students have commented on how much they love how it looks and how happy it makes them feel. It has truly brightened not only the physical space but also the energy in the room.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for this new rug and all the joy it has brought to our classroom. It has helped create a welcoming, organized, and happy environment where students love to learn. Every day, as we gather together on the smiley faces, we are reminded of how a simple addition can make such a big difference. We can't wait to continue using our rug throughout the year—for stories, lessons, and all the special moments in between. It's safe to say that our new smiley face rug has made our classroom a brighter and happier place to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1757947617886,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-rug/9447892/","projectTitle":"Classroom Rug","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9972412"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_92891","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":767,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 2","studentTeacherRatio":"36.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":88.6,"schoolId":92891,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Athens Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Athens Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/athens-city-school-district/city-park-elementary-school/92891"}
