As a child, it was uncommon to meet someone who did not like to read. Now, it seems that is the new majority. Kids are always telling me they 'do not like to read' or they do not have time to read. As a book lover, this has broken my heart time and time again. \r\n Becoming the librarian here in Kimball, I decided to figure out how to get kids reading, and not just for the sake of reading, but to actually be exited about picking up a book and get lost in another world. I have started to look into what kids are interested in, asking questions suck as what video games they play, do they like animals, are they interested in science, etc. Asking these questions has given me the ability to point kids in the direction of the books I believe they would actually be interested in- and it has worked! On any given day, we have more than 200 books checked out. I see children reading in the gym, the hallways, in the corners, on buses, and even brining their books to sporting events. This project is part of this accomplishment.\r\n The day the books started to arrive from this project, I couldn't get them unboxed and added to our library system fast enough with the kids trying to check them out immediately! They loved them! They have also loved to create drawings, pictures, and their own bookmarks with the markers that were included in this project. The kids have loved these books, and there is almost always a waiting list for many of them. \r\n We are do grateful for you donor's, taking the time and the funds to ensure children in our schools have what they need and more to thrive in their educations. Thank you so much for being apart of their joy and their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1744248906402,"projectUrl":"project/explore-and-create-in-the-library/9242819/","projectTitle":"Explore and Create in the Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Brown","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9990833"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_91784","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":84,"numTeachers":9,"percentFrplEligible":25,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":91784,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kimball High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kimball High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-dakota/kimball-school-district-7-2/kimball-high-school/91784"}
