This builds the foundation for many other topics we cover, including weather. These items make these abstract concepts concrete for my students.\r\n\r\nFor example, the hand boilers are an almost instant example of conduction. Students can see the change in the alcohol they contain. If they are not touching it, then conduction does not occur. The conductometers will allow my students to see that different materials transfer heat differently. Lastly, the ball and ring apparatus will show my students that things expand when heated, and this builds a foundation for convection. Convection is a key concept in wind and weather patterns.\r\n\r\nWith these simple tools, I will be better able to equip my students to master the concepts in almost half of my science standards. Building these foundations at the beginning of the year sets my students up for success.
