By introducing a diverse range of equipment and activity stations, students now have opportunities to explore sports and movement experiences beyond previous limitations. For example, in October our classes worked on a basketball unit in which they developed the skills required to play this game as well as a comfort level so they could participate outside of class whether that meant in a winter organized sport season or just with their friends at recess. By providing enough equipment for all students we were able to allow students to progress at their own rate and get them enough focused practice to see gains in skills.\r\n\r\nUpon first seeing the equipment all of the student were excited as they were aware of our limitations based on the materials we had just starting the school. In November we were able to give them a sneak peak at some of the new equipment through \"Gratitude Games\" stations in which they reflected on and expressed gratitude for their ability to be physically active as well as engage with their classmates.\r\n\r\nWe are now starting a volleyball unit and many of our girls that weren't as excited about basketball are excited to get to develop skills in a sport that they are more familiar or comfortable with. For others, this is their first time learning the skills of volleyball and everyone is getting to grow and improve together. All of which wouldn't be possible without the contributions of those who supported bringing this grant and these materials to our school.","fullyFundedDate":1757247542229,"projectUrl":"project/our-school-gets-active/9359416/","projectTitle":"Our School Gets Active","teacherDisplayName":"Coach K","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10036763"},{"teacherId":5709871,"projectId":8509670,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generosity. The project you helped fund has allowed for my over 200 students to explore the different dimensions of STEM. A day in the life of my classroom when using these materials may look something like exploring what an architect does and how they work with the builder. Students drew blueprints of our classroom during their first day in our brand new building, after sharing a building with our network high school. To learn what an architect does students drew layouts of our classroom and worked on what labels on a diagram look like. Students then got to take the materials and build our classroom with the Keva planks. Another project students worked on was designing their dream playground as we waited for very our playground to be finished. My K5 students designed their own playground on paper first, and then could select 2-3 different materials to build their drawing. We even used the materials to discuss being good digital citizens and staying safe online through the use of Lego's by building what they like to do when not on a device or allowing them to design their favorite digital device. \r\n\r\n The awe and amazement was something I wish I could recreate for you all as it was truly a special moment. Not only were they seeing all the new materials you helped buy but they were seeing their brand new STEAM classroom for the very first time. The combination of the two was a truly magical moment I will never forget as a teacher. Students did not truly realize all the materials I now have access to as some were tucked away, but when I set the bins out for us to use many students exclaimed, \"oh wow, look at all the toys!\" Another time they may come in and ask, \"Ms. M, when are we going to be able to use the toys again?\" They live for the day they can come to STEAM in order to explore new concepts of the world around them, even hoping it doesn't snow because that means they would probably have a snow day and miss STEAM class for the week. \r\n\r\n The next project we are going to be working on is building a structure that can hide the recycling bins we're going to be getting at our school and how we can make it withstand wind. So we will also have wind simulations, a hair dryer or fan, that will help students realize the importance of solid structures and builds. We will also explore measurement of objects and how to build a protype. Another grade level will be exploring pushes and pulls and the speed of objects through the construction of ramps. Almost ALL of the materials will be of used during these projects.","fullyFundedDate":1731515966858,"projectUrl":"project/stem-supplies-to-pave-the-way-for-succes/8509670/","projectTitle":"STEM Supplies To Pave The Way For Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCaustland","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5709871_orig.jpg?crop=2227,2227,x383,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1607704094663","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5709871"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132613","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":367,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":92.1,"schoolId":132613,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Green Charter School - Simpsonville on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Green Charter School - Simpsonville","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/south-carolina-public-charter-school-district/green-charter-school-simpsonville-lower-campus/132613"}
