We received a promethian board this year which has a built in system, but the sound quality is not good at all when music is played loud enough for all to hear. This sound system enables me to play sound tracks of the music they are preparing back with a much better quality and at louder volumes and we are just getting going using it!\r\n\r\nIt is such a blessing to not have audio cords to have to plug in and take out of my laptop and be able to connect to the speaker via bluetooth technology. Hdmi cords are large and bulky and it was a breath of fresh air to wind up the cord and to pack it away instead of having it going across the floor every day. \r\n\r\nI am just beginning to use all the features this speaker system has and plan to tie in my wireless microphones soon. We will use it again at our Christmas/Winter concerts and it will be awesome to not have to stretch speaker cords across the auditorium and gym floors when we do that have to be taped down to avoid tripping hazards as the students move in and out. This meant that they were having to use incorrect hand position to play the oversized violas for their short arms. \r\n\r\nThanks to the donations towards this project, were were able to get violas that were smaller and those students were able to re-train on shorter violas that fit perfectly. This enabled them to be more comfortable when they played and their 2nd and 3rd fingers could reach across to the C and G strings without having to use cheat hand and finger positions that would have to be re-taught and re-learned when they grow and get taller.\r\n\r\nI had a viola trio and a viola duet that were able to receive one superior and one excellent rating at this year's Solo and Ensemble Festival, which they would have been struggling to do with the violas that were too big for their small frames. Thank you donors for helping these smaller stature students to be successful!","fullyFundedDate":1737004240815,"projectUrl":"project/short-people-can-play-the-viola-too/9019014/","projectTitle":"Short People Can Play the Viola Too!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Barkley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4350_orig.jpg?crop=284,284,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719500612384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4350"},{"teacherId":4350,"projectId":9014437,"letterContent":"The We Tune Because We Care project has had a huge impact on my students, on the program, and on the music the students are making daily. Previously, we had cheap $3 and $4 tuners which just weren't very accurate or easy to use. They would often fall off while the students were trying to tune as the clips were just not designed very well. They were better than nothing for accuracy, but in tuning, close is not good enough. \r\n\r\nWith the tuners purchased with the We Tune Because We Care project, most of my students have not only learned how to self-tune the open strings, they are also learning to hear out of tune pitches and are using them to check the tuning of fingered notes while learning to adjust their finger position as needed to better play in tune.\r\n\r\nOne of the results of having a set of tuners is my string players were able to have their own tuner to make the tuning process at the annual SCMEA Orchestra Division Concert Performance Assessment go faster and smoother. They received a rating of Excellent in Grade 2 performance in the Full Orchestra Division. They also used the tuners at the Solo and Ensemble Festival and received 11 Superior ratings, 1 Excellent, and 1 Good. Thank you so much for your help in helping them achieve success.","fullyFundedDate":1736999542506,"projectUrl":"project/we-tune-because-we-care/9014437/","projectTitle":"We Tune Because We Care!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Barkley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4350_orig.jpg?crop=284,284,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719500612384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4350"},{"teacherId":4350,"projectId":8995622,"letterContent":"Hello. Our school has several different brands and sizes of cellos in our inventory. Some of them are 10+ years old and still have original strings. The director before me also was doing the best they had with the limited budget and purchased some strings in bulk. These strings were fine for beginners as they often break strings learning how to tune but they are basic steel strings with a bright tinny sound.\r\n\r\nThe strings that were purchased through the kind donations to this project are the Prelude made by D\"Addario, a very reputable brand used by several of my colleagues as the strings have a warmer, darker, richer sound than the cheaper wire strings that often come with a beginning cello or sold in bulk. We are replaced/are replacing those bulk strings with the Preludes which will help the tenor voiced strings in our orchestra. We recently took these cellos with the Prelude strings to this year's SCMEA Orchestra CPA (Concert Performance Assessment) and they played with some of our wind and percussion instruments in this year's Full Orchestra Division. The group received a rating of Excellent! The contributions of the donors to our Better Strings Make A Better Cello helped to make this possible by helping our cellos have better tone quality thereby improve the overall sound of the ensemble as well.","fullyFundedDate":1734524757736,"projectUrl":"project/better-strings-make-a-better-cello/8995622/","projectTitle":"Better Strings Make a Better Cello","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Barkley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4350_orig.jpg?crop=284,284,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719500612384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4350"},{"teacherId":4350,"projectId":8473400,"letterContent":"At the beginning of this year, all of the Arts programs of our school were told our budgets were going to be cut. The orchestra program alone was cut $1200 in supply money. This has meant we have had to cut supply expenses drastically compared to previous years. In the past we were able to provide each child with their own piece of rosin they would use throughout the year. This year we have had to get by and share rosin and have had 6 pieces that we have had to use through the year, passing from one to another, sometimes having to use bass rosin for violins and violas, who use a different formula. We have made it work, but it has lead to difficulties, compromises, dropped and broken pieces, and having to clean bows more because of the wrong formula for the different types of bows.\r\nYou kind donation is enabling my students to be successful and making better sounds on their string instruments by filling all of these needed areas. We no longer have to pass rosin from person to person which leads to pieces possibly dropped and broken, having to use fractions of pieces to rosin with, passing of germs from possible flu-tainted hands, and the desperate use of bass rosin on a violin because it was all we had. \r\nOur group will be able to make fuller, less airy and scratchy sounds on the strings because of your kind and generous donation and we deeply appreciate it.","fullyFundedDate":1733495457770,"projectUrl":"project/rosin-for-rumbas/8473400/","projectTitle":"Rosin for Rumbas","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Barkley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4350_orig.jpg?crop=284,284,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719500612384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4350"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6612","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":725,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":44,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":50.6,"schoolId":6612,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Loris Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Loris Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/horry-county-school-district/loris-middle-school/6612"}
