These resources provided students with the opportunity to explore new media, experiment with color application, and develop their artistic voices in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nFor my eighth-grade students, who created arbitrary color vector portraits, the donated supplies enabled them to work with acrylic paint in a way that emphasized value relationships and color harmonies. By using analogous colors to match grayscale values, they learned how to create depth and form while also exploring the expressive potential of color. This project reinforced their understanding of tints, tones, and shades while allowing them to connect digital and traditional art-making processes.\r\n\r\nSeventh graders explored Fauvist-inspired landscapes, focusing on highly saturated, expressive color. With access to high-quality materials, they could experiment with bold, non-traditional color choices to reimagine landscapes in a way that emphasized emotion over realism. This project helped them understand the impact of saturation, complementary contrasts, and dynamic composition, all while developing confidence in their brushwork and layering techniques.\r\n\r\nFor sixth grade, the donated materials made it possible to create an optical illusion-based site-specific temporary mural for the school. This project encouraged students to think critically about spatial relationships, perspective, and how color interactions affect visual perception. By using acrylic paint to create precise gradients and contrasts, they applied their understanding of color theory in a real-world context, transforming their school environment with their artwork.\r\n\r\nOverall, these donated supplies provided students with the tools they needed to fully immerse themselves in painting techniques, composition, and the elements and principles of art and design. They allowed students to take risks, make creative decisions, and develop technical skills that will serve them beyond the classroom. The impact of these materials was not just in the art they produced but in the confidence, knowledge, and appreciation for artistic expression that they gained through the process.","fullyFundedDate":1733273763320,"projectUrl":"project/painting-like-the-masters/8961497/","projectTitle":"Painting like the Masters!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tangires","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9563657_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721652763647","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9563657"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6613","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":578,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":56,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":61.3,"schoolId":6613,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Conway Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Conway Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/horry-county-school-district/conway-middle-school/6613"}
