Thanks to the generosity of our donors, students have had discreet access to essential items such as deodorant, soap, feminine hygiene products, and other personal care necessities. Knowing these resources are readily available has helped reduce embarrassment and anxiety, allowing students to focus on learning instead of worrying about unmet personal needs.\r\n\r\nHaving these supplies in the classroom has also strengthened the trusting relationships I work to build with my students. Because the station is available to everyone, students can access what they need privately and without fear of judgment. This simple act of providing essential hygiene items has helped create a classroom culture rooted in compassion, respect, and dignity, reminding students that their well-being matters just as much as their academic success.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, I have been able to remove a barrier that too often interferes with learning. When students feel clean, confident, and supported, they are more willing to participate in class, collaborate with peers, and engage in their education. The Fresh Start Station continues to serve as a quiet but meaningful reminder that every student deserves the opportunity to learn with confidence and self-respect.","fullyFundedDate":1742737500870,"projectUrl":"project/the-fresh-start-corner/8979253/","projectTitle":"The Fresh Start Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Revels-Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4308858_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1605203656920","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/srevels"},{"teacherId":4308858,"projectId":8977085,"letterContent":"This project transformed our classroom into a living laboratory where students experienced science in action. Through the hydroponic garden, students learned about plant life cycles, sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and environmental stewardship by growing fresh lettuce from seed to harvest. Rather than simply reading about these concepts, students became active participants in the learning process by monitoring plant growth, observing root systems, maintaining the hydroponic units, and celebrating each successful harvest.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was contagious. Students eagerly checked the gardens each day, compared the growth of different varieties of lettuce, and asked thoughtful questions about how plants could thrive without soil. Harvesting the lettuce and sharing the finished product gave students a tremendous sense of pride and ownership in their learning.\r\n\r\nThese hydroponic systems allowed me to create authentic, interdisciplinary learning experiences that connected science, math, literacy, and healthy living. Students collected and analyzed growth data, researched hydroponic farming, wrote reflections about their observations, and discussed the importance of sustainable food production.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic lessons, this project fostered curiosity, collaboration, responsibility, and perseverance. Students learned that successful growing requires patience, careful observation, and problem-solving—skills that extend far beyond the classroom. The hydroponic gardens continue to be a valuable instructional tool, inspiring students to ask questions, think critically, and experience the joy of learning through discovery.","fullyFundedDate":1741975247301,"projectUrl":"project/farm-to-table-the-gardening-experience/8977085/","projectTitle":"Farm to Table: the Gardening Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Revels-Davis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4308858_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1605203656920","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/srevels"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_6789","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":469,"numTeachers":40,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":55,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":47.8,"schoolId":6789,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Chester Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Chester Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/south-carolina/chester-county-school-district/chester-middle-school/6789"}
