The kids are able to get very suble movement from the chairs and sensory input in order to increase focus! Each student wanted to try out the new materials especially the chairs! I have it warped so that there are four separate weavings going at one time. In third grade my students learn about weaving and so my current fourth graders, now being weaving experts are loving taking turns weaving on the loom together. It is such a popular early finisher activity that I need to make sure everyone is getting a turn. My current third grade students are learning about weaving and they will be introduced to the floor loom in January and they can't wait to start weaving on it as well. \r\n\r\nMy fourth grade students are already reaping so many benefits from our floor loom. They are learning how art can be a collaborative experience rather than just a singular effort. I love that individually they select a yarn to weave with and then after weaving several rows a new choice is made by another student. Sometimes there is discussion about color choices or just life or the latest elementary school dilemma. It has been so gratifying to see them talking together as they weave - reminding me of the quilters who would sit together and talk as they would quilt a blanket together. It has also been therapeutic for some of my students as they can come and spend some quiet time weaving during a break in their day.\r\n\r\nOnce the first four weavings are done I will re-warp the loom again and I will continue this cycle to keep students weaving all year long. I plan to piece all the weavings together into one large wall hanging towards the end of the school year and hang it in school for all to enjoy.","fullyFundedDate":1711118511293,"projectUrl":"project/a-friendly-loom-to-build-camaraderie-in/8238839/","projectTitle":"A Friendly Loom to Build Camaraderie in the Art Room","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Herbay","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9010180_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1681675485696","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9010180"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88753","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":471,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"19.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":96.0,"schoolId":88753,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Baker Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Baker Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/upper-st-clair-township-school-district/baker-elementary-school/88753"}
