I requested card stock, markers, binders, and neon expo markers to help make my classroom more hands-on and less technology based. While each of my students has a personal device for use at school, I find that students synthesize information better when they are writing, looking back into notes, and draw their ideas.\r\n\r\nI teach two courses of science-- I have one half of the grade for the first two quarters and the second half of the grade for the remainder of the year. Because using physical notebooks are new in the classroom, I'm finding students are coming to school without the requested binders and dividers. I'm able to use the donated binders as spares for students who may not be able obtain one. In addition, I find that the card stock can also be hole-bunched and used as dividers for the binders to separate chapters.\r\n\r\nFinally, the neon expo markers were a HUGE hit during the first half of the school year-- and they couldn't come at a better time. We began studying food webs and photosynthesis and students were excited to draw their food webs and models on the desk. They were able to erase, make changes, and snap a picture as part of their learning. They've become such a hit, other science teachers are seeking out these markers to keep their students engaged. \r\n\r\nThe cardstock and Crayola markers are also very useful in my science courses. Science standards changed recently and there is more focus on student-produced models and notes. While 5th graders find this challenging, at least in the beginning, they are more inclined to participate and try with \"fun\" materials. Using color for note-taking also helps them remember concepts.\r\n\r\nAgain, I appreciate this donation. My district is great in that it supplies our essentials, plus some, but having these materials is helping my students go above and beyond. I promise to pass my good fortune forward in hopes of inspiring other teachers.","fullyFundedDate":1731534656805,"projectUrl":"project/science-notebooks/8703319/","projectTitle":"Science Notebooks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Geissinger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9562448"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_90654","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":603,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":31,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":79,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":90654,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Saucon Valley Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Saucon Valley Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/saucon-valley-school-district/saucon-valley-middle-school/90654"}
