Books that when we finish using them in class are theirs to keep, with each book that goes home with them, my students will also get to hold onto the fulfillment and joy that comes from feeling accomplished and finishing a chapter book. \r\n\r\nI am so lucky to get to work with amazing students who are growing their love of literacy everyday. I see students in small groups ranging from 1st to 11th grade. We use complex texts to grow our vocabulary, study morphology, look at sentence structure, enjoy reading and more!\r\n\r\nIn my second grade group, every student is reading their very first chapter book-Flat Stanley. They are devouring this first book, chapter by chapter! My third graders are getting to practice reading fluently through the characters found in Dyamonde Daniel, who is described as an, \"intelligent, spirited, and determined third-grader with a \"can-do\" attitude\". Another 3rd grade group is laughing their way through, The Life of Humphrey, the narrator is a very humorous hamster--this text is above grade level so we are stretching and expanding our reading brains. In my fifth grade group, the kids are exploring different themes around what it means to be a hero and how our past experiences shape who we become in City Spies.
