September began my first year teaching 8th grade math and geometry, and with it came new considerations for how to design, organize and decorate the room to make it welcoming, supportive, and above all, student-centered. \r\n\r\nWith your support, I was able to purchase an array of bulletin boards from Teacher Pay Teacher that encourage a positive environment that connects math to the real world, and empowers students to think critically. The September bulletin board focused on students as Mathematicians, and different skills (observers, collaborators, inventors, problem solvers, etc.) we develop as we learn 8th grade math. October's board is a twist on algebra vocabulary and students positive impact on others to support Kindness Month in our school. Holiday based bulletin boards will come soon, and extend to ideas such as error analysis and a collaborative sudoku board for students to help solve. \r\n\r\nI was also able to purchase numerous activities from Teacher Pay Teacher to supplement the two math programs that I teach. Most are for curriculum that will be taught later in the school year, but we were able to use one last week to support our first chapter on the basics of geometry. This was a great resource for students to review polygon attributes, including vocabulary such as polygon names, concave and convex, and regular and irregular shapes. Students really enjoyed the time on this activity to consider, discuss, and color the images based on which attributes were untrue. Lots of critical thinking took place while students enjoyed something different thank the typical problem-based practice. \r\n\r\nI look forward to seeing how these resources impact student learning and their overall attitude towards math throughout the remainder of the year. Thank you again for supporting our students.","fullyFundedDate":1752671543728,"projectUrl":"project/student-centered-mathematics-learning/9441656/","projectTitle":"Student-Centered Mathematics Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krivansky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10068338"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_89294","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":530,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":66,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":89294,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Penn's Groves School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Penn's Groves School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/oxford-area-school-district/penn-s-groves-school/89294"}
