Because I teach in a low-income school, many of my middle school students do not have access to all of the basic supplies that they should have. My female students regularly have to go to the nurse because of accidents they have during the school day when they don't have the necessary feminine products. Many of them are coming into womanhood for the first time and are caught off guard. Having these items available to them in a trusted teacher's classroom has made all the difference. They know where in the room to go to discretely pick out what they need without even having to ask me in front of other students.
