I teach students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades and all students who enter my classroom have access to the items in the cart. It sits beside my desk at the front of the classroom and students can grab what they need from the cart at any time without needing to ask permission. \r\n\r\nStudents were so excited to see the boxes pile up and were even more excited as I added items to the cart over the last week. I repurposed an existing five drawer cart so that I could be as resourceful as possible. I organized the cart by type of item: breakfast items (in case students arrive late to school and miss the free school breakfast), general snack items, and three drawers of personal care items. Part of my project also included squishy toys and calming strips that I will give to students on an as needed basis. I have put them away in a cupboard but students know that they can ask for a sensory item if they need one. \r\n\r\nIn the future, I hope that I am able to replenish the items in the Personal Care Cart as needed once I see what students use frequently. Once again, I am extremely thankful for your generous donation to my classroom. By having items like snacks, mints, deodorant, hairbrushes, band aids, and feminine hygiene products in addition to other items in my room, it cuts down on the need for students to leave the classroom to look for these items. They stay IN the classroom so they can actually be used, and students use them regularly. Now that my school uses iPads, they need a different connector for headphones. These bulk headphones provide the correct connection. The adaptors help with students who have their own headphones, or want to use my over-the-ear headphones (these ones are able to be sanitized). Because students can write, erase, revise, and start again, they are able to focus on the process of learning while also reducing the amount of paper we use.\r\n\r\nThe Apple TV has also made sharing student work much easier. Students can now connect directly to our television to present what they have created, share their thinking with classmates, and display projects for the larger school community to see. These resources have helped make our classroom and library more collaborative spaces where student work does not simply get turned in-- it gets discussed, shared, and celebrated!
