The new bean bag chair, aesthetic wicker chairs, and soft throw pillows have made an immediate difference in how students engage during counseling sessions.\r\n\r\nWhen students first walked into the room and saw the new seating, their reactions said it all—\"This feels like home,\" \"Can I sit here every time?\" and big smiles all around. For many of my students, having a cozy place to sit helps lower anxiety and makes difficult conversations feel less intimidating. Students who once struggled to settle or share are now more relaxed, focused, and willing to participate.\r\n\r\nWe use the seating during individual counseling sessions and small groups focused on emotional regulation, social skills, and problem-solving. One of my favorite moments has been watching students independently choose the seating option that helps them feel most comfortable—whether that's sinking into the bean bag chair or curling up with a pillow during a reflective conversation. Giving students that choice helps build self-awareness and ownership over their emotional needs.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue using this space to support lessons on self-regulation, emotional expression, and healthy coping strategies, helping students practice skills they can carry into their classrooms and beyond. Their faces lit up when they saw the sand and Play-Doh laid out—it instantly lowered anxiety and helped them feel safe and excited to participate. Students who are usually quiet or hesitant began opening up while shaping dough, digging in the sand, or using tools to build and create. These materials have become powerful conversation starters and emotional outlets.\r\n\r\nWe are using these resources during individual counseling and small groups to support emotional regulation, fine motor development, and social skills. For example, students use Play-Doh to model feelings, practice coping strategies, or work through peer conflicts while their hands stay busy and their bodies calm. The sand trays allow students to express experiences and emotions they may not yet have language for, giving me valuable insight into how to best support them.\r\n\r\nNext, we will continue integrating these tools into lessons focused on self-regulation, problem-solving, and communication, helping students practice coping skills they can carry back into the classroom. For our art show in May I will create an installation of our finished works incorporating these drawings. We have been loving and using up our new tempera paint colors. In 2nd and 3rd grade we have been making lots of canvas board paintings. Since the kids are still learning to pour the paint on their own Tempera is definitely the better choice. All the grades have been making beautiful air dry clay projects as well, so the paint is perfect. \r\n\r\nThe kids can always use more paper especially the thick cardstock paper that we recieved. Students are more willing to participate, open up, and try new strategies because the technology makes learning feel safe, modern, and fun.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who typically struggle to engage during traditional discussions have especially warmed to these tools. They could decide if they wanted to add details on top once their blending portions were dry.\r\n\r\nThe masking tape has saved the day with out various fall projects. In art club I had the kids do a mummy fashion show using toilet paper and tape as their main materials. They had a blast and it helped make Halloween even more fun.\r\n\r\nIn 5th grade we created our mini scarecrows using packing paper and masking tape primarily.
