Since I only work with the students one time per week, we have only had the chance to use the \"Structures\" and \"Mechanics\" kit. The other two kits are \"Newton's Laws\" and Physics Laws.\" \r\n\r\nWith the Structures kit, students learned about the different types of buildings and bridges. Specifically, they learned what makes bridges stable and how they are able to carry more load as part of building them. We just started using the Mechanics kit, and they just built a movable weight scale to learn about moment, load, and effort.\r\n\r\nThe students are learning about the different aspects of Engino, so that they can then start working towards participating in the local STEM Challenge, which is to \"design a section of a factory that produces a product using sustainable practices by preparing a prototype constructed of K'Nex and/or Engino, that showcases how their functioning machine works, and how it supports environmentally responsible production. The machine prototype should clearly demonstrate sustainability principles by minimizing waste, maximizing efficiency, and/or simulating the use of recycled, reusable, or otherwise sustainable parts, materials, or resources.\" To help facilitate their understanding of a factory system and the sustainability model, guest speakers from a local company will be visiting with the students in early December. Additionally, we will be visiting another local company in January to see a factory in operation. \r\n\r\nThe students are very excited about these opportunities. The hands-on building fits right into their kinesthetic learning needs. This has been a great way to connect classroom learning with the real world.","fullyFundedDate":1747184249257,"projectUrl":"project/stem-design-challenge-competition/9223255/","projectTitle":"STEM Design Challenge Competition","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Derry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9989809_orig.jpg?crop=120,120,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744220598507","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9989809"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_90598","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":885,"numTeachers":57,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":82,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":90598,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bangor Area High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bangor Area High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/bangor-area-school-district/bangor-area-high-school/90598"}
