Your generosity provided snacks, essential tools, and fun, learning materials. The kids certainly enjoyed the Goldfish crackers and the Welch's fruit snacks. We use the dry erase markers and the pencils daily. The Magna Tiles were a big hit! My students love building with those; these are always a popular choice when we have free choice time. The Wikki Stix provide a fun, but educational way, for the students to practice the letters of the alphabet and how to spell their names. The finger flashlights are also one of their favorite items! They often ask if we are going to use them.\r\n\r\nWhat may seem to be simple items to us are truly special items to my students! I love watching them use their creativity and imagination while building with the Magna Tiles. A love for reading is encouraged by the use of the finger flashlights. Their brains are able to function better when they do not feel hungry in the morning before lunch because they had a snack. The dry erase markers and pencils provide essential practice in writing. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to see all of the new materials! The students use these materials to document their observations of the weather. This year our class's calendar helper is our meteorologist. This student observes the weather and reports on what he/she sees. We keep track of the number of days of each type of weather on a digital slide. At times, the students document their observations on either the whiteboards or on paper, which is attached to their clipboards. We will keep track of the weather continuously throughout the year. \r\n\r\nThe students love these materials! For most of them, it is the first time they have experienced using either a whiteboard with dry erase markers or a clipboard. Just imagine the excitement of being able to use something new! They often ask each day if they may use their whiteboards. These provide a smooth writing surface which is easy to erase, so these young children feel more at ease in trying to write or draw on them. The clipboards are a \"cool\" gadget, which they find fascinating! I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of them figured out how to place the paper underneath the clip. \r\n\r\nAs the year progresses, we will continue to make observations about the weather. I wonder what weather patterns we will discover as the year continues? These observations will culminate in the spring as we delve into our specific weather and energy unit. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for your generous donation. This has made a huge impact in my students' education. Thanks to your generous donation we now have a full stock of stunning, rainbow colored tempera paints for our Elementary Art Classes. \r\n\r\nMy artists love having creative freedom to experiment during our art classes. They especially love experimenting with tempera paints during our art labs, to mix new colors. The regular red colored paint is too warm and when mixed with the blue it makes a super funky brown rather than purple.
