These books bring vibrant stories, diverse perspectives, and a powerful introduction into reading for pleasure—something that can make a lasting impact on young minds.\r\n\r\nWe also want to extend our heartfelt thanks for the donated beads and necklaces that have become a delightful part of our reader reward system. These gifts have transformed our classroom into a warm, inviting space where students feel safe to learn, share, and grow together. Recently, we gathered to read the chapter \"My Name\" from The House on Mango Street, and it became so much more than just a reading activity—it became a journey of self-discovery and healing for our immigrant students.\r\nAs we explored Esperanza's reflections on her name and identity, our students began to open up about their own names—their meanings, histories, and the loved ones who gave them. Some shared stories of grandparents who chose their names to carry family legacies, while others spoke about the challenge of hearing their names mispronounced in a new country. Listening to each other in both English and Spanish created a beautiful moment of connection. The bilingual discussion allowed students to celebrate their languages, appreciate their differences, and find common ground in shared experiences. In that circle, everyone's story mattered, and every voice found its place.\r\nMoments like these are deeply meaningful, especially through the lens of trauma-informed education. Many of our students have experienced displacement, separation, or loss in their journeys, but by engaging in reflective, story-based activities, they begin to reclaim pieces of themselves. Reading The House on Mango Street gave them language for emotions they had not yet expressed, and the cozy chairs you donated helped make the space feel safe enough to do so. What unfolded was more than a discussion—it was a moment of healing and belonging. Thanks to your generosity, our students are learning not only English or literature, but also the profound truth that their names, their voices, and their stories are worthy of being heard.","fullyFundedDate":1756948275217,"projectUrl":"project/caminos-de-esperanza-peer-mentoring-and/9656782/","projectTitle":"Caminos de Esperanza Peer-Mentoring and Counseling Program","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gambourg-Schuster","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10227631_orig.png?crop=185,185,x0,y14&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756381058532","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-gambourgschuster"},{"teacherId":7833359,"projectId":9152132,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation.
