We use the seat cushions as flexible seating around the room during independent work time. We use the playdoh during arrival and dismissal time. We use the crayons and colored pencils for all of our fun first grade crafts. We use the whiteboards for carpet time and small-group instruction. They love that part of the day! I have had a blast using the sand tray. As soon as I received it in the mail I was able to use it with a student who has trouble communicating his emotions. He was able to set the scene for what was upsetting him and we found the answer to his problem. We worked with him to solve it and he was able to bounce back and go back to class. \r\n\r\nThis sand tray has opened new doors for my students, giving them a new way to express themselves. It is really special to watch the students explore the tray and try new things. My favorite part is when I ask them to pick a character for themselves and to see who they pick. My students are so wonderful and special and the sand tray play shows that to the fullest. \r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity in helping me give my students a new form of expression. With your help, I was able to add some fiction and non fiction books for the children to read. We also now have books that are decodable and books with vowel sounds that I have rotated into work stations while we are learning that specific sound or skill. My students were so excited to receive these books! I also let them help me open and sort the books. They were so happy!
