These materials made a huge difference, particularly for ELD students in my classroom who are learning English as a second language. With the resources provided, I was able to design activities at three different levels of difficulty, allowing students to rotate through multiple learning stations each day across several units. This structure ensured that every student, regardless of their proficiency level, had work that was appropriately challenging and engaging.\r\n\r\nThe impact on my students was immediate and noticeable. ELD students were able to practice new vocabulary, sentence structures, and conversational skills in ways that felt natural and enjoyable. The hands-on materials made abstract concepts concrete, allowing students to see, touch, and interact with their learning rather than just hearing or reading about it. This kind of engagement is especially important for language learners because it supports comprehension, retention, and the ability to use language in authentic contexts.\r\n\r\nIn addition to supporting students learning English, the resources also positively impacted students who are learning Spanish as a second language. They, too, benefited from the multi-level rotations and the hands-on nature of the activities. By providing differentiated instruction and resources tailored to different proficiency levels, all students were able to make progress at their own pace. They gained confidence in their abilities, felt supported, and were motivated to participate actively in classroom discussions and activities.\r\n\r\nBecause of these resources, I was able to accomplish more in my teaching than I could have otherwise. I was able to implement three different rotations each day, each tailored to specific learning goals. This allowed me to provide targeted instruction to small groups of students, giving each child more individualized attention. Students had more opportunities to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in both English and Spanish, which supported their language development in a structured yet engaging way. The ability to differentiate instruction across multiple units simultaneously was truly a game-changer, as it allowed me to meet the needs of every learner while keeping all students engaged and challenged.\r\n\r\nOverall, the project was an all-around win for my classroom. Students were more engaged, motivated, and confident in their learning. They enjoyed the hands-on, interactive nature of the materials, which made language learning fun and meaningful. As a teacher, I was able to provide high-quality instruction that addressed the diverse needs of my students, which made the classroom a more inclusive and effective learning environment.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful to The Gates Foundation and all the donors who made this project possible. Your support has had a real, lasting impact on my students' learning and development. Thank you for investing in their growth and helping create a classroom where every student can succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1723665614146,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-growth-with-centers/8521569/","projectTitle":"Fostering Growth With Centers!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aubry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4506280_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x244,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721957294289","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4506280"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88247","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":256,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":64,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"7.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.5,"schoolId":88247,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lent Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lent Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oregon/portland-public-schools/lent-elementary-school/88247"}
