They continue to be curious about what kinds of snacks might appear on the counter! It's a fun little surprise in their day. I cannot thank you enough for supporting \"Quiet Their Bellies, Boost Their Brains!\" Your gift has been helpful in keeping students engaged, as well as being able to learn and enjoy the fun of Spanish.\r\n\r\nStudents begin class with a small task and silent reading time during which they may choose and eat a snack. I am pleased with the routine and the efficiency surrounding this time, as well as the role snacks play in signaling time for focus. My favorite is hearing that sigh during silent reading...the one that comes when a person has felt a reset and is settling in to a task. Thank you for helping provide the sigh!\r\n\r\nMy life outside of school took a few unexpected turns after submitting the project and I ended up needing surgery. It was such a blessing to find out my project was completely sponsored at a time when I was feeling overwhelmed with planning. These easy, ready-to-go snacks made it easier to provide continuity and consistency of routine in the classroom throughout the year with my many absences.\r\n\r\nIt is my intention to continue improving the routine as I go, hoping to find ways to provide healthy brain boosts for students each year. It is fantastic to have enough books available for all the students to have a choice of reading material!\r\n\r\nYour gift of bilingual and Spanish books have been used for a low-risk yet challenging weekly reading time. Students begin the class period with 10-15 minutes of quiet, continuous reading, then fill out a reading log noting the book/s they chose, new words they learned and a summary of what they understood it to be about. The students love this time of quiet beginning and most like the challenge of trying to see how much they can understand. \r\n\r\nI love to see students enjoying a story they remember from early childhood, or an interesting new fact or word they learned while they read. A few students read about the phenomenon of \"lluvia de peces\" (raining fish) in Honduras...of course we looked it up! \r\n\r\nThrough reading these books, students are getting important language input and adding to their language learning and confidence in their own abilities. On top of that, they are gaining interest in and curiosity for different places, cultures and topics presented in the books they read, making connections within lessons along the way. Once we have shelves, books will be organized by level so I can better direct students to appropriate books. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for opening up so many possibilities for these students and for this teacher!
