They thrive on making real-world connections, and these new materials will give them exactly that opportunity. What once felt abstract will now become tangible, measurable, and exciting.\r\n\r\nThe Vernier lab book will help guide them through inquiry-based investigations that build scientific thinking step-by-step. These hands-on labs will not only deepen their understanding of 1-D and 2-D motion but also help them grow in confidence as young scientists—problem solvers who can analyze, question, and figure things out.\r\n\r\nYour generosity doesn't just impact one class, either. This equipment will also support our freshman physical science students in the spring, giving them an early, engaging introduction to physics that can spark long-term interest.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for helping bring physics to life in our classroom. They arrive each day eager to explore, create, build, and experiment. Because of your donation, they will now have the materials they need to bring science to life in ways that deepen understanding and spark true excitement.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, they designed colorful cell models with paint and markers, creating organelle artwork that showcases both science and creativity, and presenting student-led research on vibrant poster boards. The diorama boxes you funded will help them reconstruct ecosystems and visualize how living things interact. Balloons will let them demonstrate motion and force in action, and even simple ziplock bags will support the chemistry and physical science labs they love—like exploring enthalpy through hands-on investigation.\r\n\r\nThese may seem like small supplies, but in our classroom, they unlock big opportunities. With this year's budget cuts eliminating all classroom funds, we simply couldn't provide these materials without outside support. Many of our families face financial challenges and are unable to donate supplies, making your contribution even more impactful.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students will get to experience science—not just read about it. They'll engage in meaningful projects, ask deeper questions, and see themselves as scientists, creators, and problem-solvers. It has allowed every learner to work at their own pace and truly focus.\r\n\r\nThe excitement on the first day we unpacked the headphones was unforgettable. Students immediately asked, \"Are these for us?\". The cases were equally appreciated—they loved knowing that the headphones would be protected and last longer.\r\n\r\nOne student, who often struggles with overstimulation, has made remarkable progress since receiving her new headphones. She now confidently works on her schoolwork independently without feeling overstimulated by the background noise. Another student who prefers independent learning told me, \"It's so much easier to concentrate now.\" These small moments have added up to big improvements in focus, confidence, and engagement.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped our students access the full benefits of technology in a clean, safe, and distraction-free way. One student tested the new scales and was relieved to see the scale stay powered on. Their excitement to not have to share one for the class set the tone for the entire day.\r\n\r\nThese tools haven't just improved a single lesson—they've elevated the quality of our entire program. With the new funnels, students can now safely conduct filtration and separation labs that we previously had to skip due to broken equipment. The reliability and durability of these materials have allowed us to plan labs with confidence and push our students toward more rigorous, meaningful investigation.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve launching a long-term biodiversity monitoring project in our rainforest. Students will use the binoculars to track species presence over time and the waterproof notebooks to document changes in weather, wildlife activity, and plant growth.\r\n\r\nYour support has given our students the chance to do real science—accurate, engaging, and connected to the world around them. As soon as the first box was opened, my students lit up. \r\n\r\nYour support has also helped build a more welcoming and safe classroom culture. Students know that when they walk into our room, their basic needs will be met, and this sense of care has strengthened their engagement in lessons and group work. Your donations allowed us to increase the quality of the tools in our woodcarving course and increased my students' enjoyment in this class. This led to more discussions between the students as they carved, which in turn created more community. \r\n\r\nWhile I teach a woodcarving course yearly, I've also taught block printing and stained-glass mosaics courses, and in each course I've taught I've seen that if the students experience too much frustration, the level of engagement declines. They become more self-focused and isolated. When the frustration is relieved, they are chatty, working together in groups, and having a great time. While I purchased the tools they were previously using (a popular entry level brand), I knew that sooner or later they'd need to be upgraded to avoid that frustration. \r\n\r\nThis project that you helped fund, brought joy to my students when they first used the new tools. They commented on how much easier it was to carve with new knives; they were thrilled that there were whole sets of palm tools to help them texture and detail their carvings, and they liked that they now have a dedicated way to sharpen the palm tools. \r\n\r\nWhile we didn't get exactly what was present in the project, due to stocking issues with one of the venders, eventually we were able to find items that met the goals of the project. We have more variety in the palm tools (6 sets of 5 profiles verses the proposed 12 sets of 2 profiles), but a fewer knives than planned (21 knives of three profiles verses the proposed 24 knives of 2 profiles). Pictures are included, showing what was received. \r\n\r\nAs mentioned, the students were quite happy to receive the new tools. They did only get to use them for a brief time as the course was winding down. The positive is they are looking forward to next year's class and the possibilities that await. My plan for upcoming course is to provide a course entirely focused on carving faces (starting with a simple 5-minute wizards and progressing through wood spirits and finalizing with a winter-themed carving). This has been made more attainable with these new carving tools.","fullyFundedDate":1739231705216,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-community-a-high-school/9003291/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Community: A High School Woodcarving Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9872260"},{"teacherId":6335895,"projectId":9069458,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation of the laptops and charging stations. With the budget cuts my district has been experiencing, we could not buy any new laptops this year. \r\n One of the biggest problems my students faced was that the microphones and speakers were not functioning correctly, so they could not complete their assignments on time. Having the new technology instantly solved that problem for the language students. They were so happy to come to class and see the new laptops! Students were able to investigate the genetics of taste, testing whether they had certain taste-related genes using real-world lab techniques. The excitement in the room was unforgettable! Laughter, surprise, and curiosity filled the lab as students discovered whether they could taste bitter compounds and discussed what that meant about their DNA. They were also able. to examine their taste buds in detail and how their smell and sight could impact taste. Many students told me this was their favorite lab of the entire year.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the taste lab, students also worked with plants to model how traits are passed down through multiple generations. They planted, observed, and recorded changes over time, watching Mendelian genetics unfold before their eyes. It was amazing to hear students confidently use terms like \"phenotype,\" \"genotype,\" \"dominant,\" and \"recessive\" while discussing their observations. The experience helped solidify concepts that can otherwise feel abstract or hard to grasp.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just deepen students' understanding of genetics, it sparked genuine interest in genetics and science as a whole.
