Students have the materials they need to learn all they can, and I'm so much less stressed knowing I have what they need in my cupboards to share. \r\n\r\nWhen my students opened their supply boxes at the start of the year and saw the new crayons, pencils, and other supplies they were all smiles. We use the dry erase pens daily for our math lessons and dictation exercises to boost foundational literacy skills. \r\n\r\nLately, we have been learning a lot about the life cycle of the Chinook salmon. We are raising salmon eggs in a tank in our classroom and they have recently hatched! We will release them in mid-December at a local river. Students used all of these basic supplies (so. many. pencils!) to write a narrative informational story telling their \"life story\" as a Chinook salmon and they really got into it! Your donation made it possible for me to acquire many items I have not had access to previously, which are already benefiting students in meaningful ways. Your support helps create a positive and enriching learning environment, and I am truly grateful.\r\n\r\nAs you can see from the photos, we have been able to utilize our new paintbrushes by making painted paper for the various art projects my students will get to engage in this year. This is also helping my students with their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination because they are learning how to use a paintbrush correctly while staying focused on painting the entire paper using broad strokes.\r\n\r\nMy students also got their first introduction to using their watercolors by applying color to the watercolor paper I was able to purchase with your donation. As you can see they did a great job learning how to switch from one color to the next without making a muddy mess. Having the watercolor paper made this activity so much more enjoyable because the colors are so vibrant which gives immediate gratification and the feeling of success.\r\n\r\nThe first few months of kindergarten are all about establishing relationships, building routines and stamina, and laying the foundation for developing academic skills. Now that a lot of that is in a really good place, we can start utilizing all of the hand2mind tools I was able to obtain. I will use the tools in small groups and centers to give my students hands on experiences to \"train their brain\"! Many of my students already enjoy using the pop-its with numbers to 100 to practice counting. They will really enjoy using the 10 Frame Pop-Its when we start learning addition. Of course these will be useful for other learning opportunities. \r\n\r\nAgain, I am deeply grateful for the generous support for my students.
