It's important to understand that they can make energy and grow their own food.\r\nWe also make rockets through the Este's company so students can make things and then we shoot them off and talk a lot about flight.\r\nWe have a big unit on insects the beginning of the year with butterflies and caterpillars and later in the yewe have a big unit on Mac and vertebrates so the solar bugs were a natural direction for us\r\nAll of your contributions have been wonderful thank you very much","fullyFundedDate":1744039195766,"projectUrl":"project/sunny-bugs-on-the-southern-oregon-coast/9078153/","projectTitle":"Sunny Bugs on the Southern Oregon coast","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nye","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9569012_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1719430722844","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9569012"},{"teacherId":9569012,"projectId":8982352,"letterContent":"Oh boy, my students know so much more about mushrooms and they like eating them too.\r\nThe kiddos grew them and ate them and learned their life cycles. Each item was met with interest and curiosity.\r\n\r\nThe lap pad is hardly out of someone's lap, going from one student to another after each transition. During free time, they will opt to play the emotions board games or get together in small groups to use the breathing exercises. I have noticed that this has helped them to regulate when they begin to get upset.\r\n\r\nWhen they can not re-regulate themselves, then we pull out the feelings book and the coloring sheets. It gives them a focus for something other than their feelings or the frustration of working through disregulation.\r\n\r\nI use the timer during each section of class to give them an idea of how long it will last. This has helped them stay focused. Their vocabulary has drastically increased due to the wheel of feelings. They use it in their writing and in their own conversations to help describe their lives with more detail.\r\n\r\nThe calm strips help provide just enough stimulation that they can focus on individual work without becoming distracted.\r\n\r\nNow that the spring has come, I will be using the activities in Emotionally Regulation for Kids to help prep them for moving on in June.
