It is widely proven that the arts benefit students in every subject area, raise test scores, and improve moral for an entire school. I've often heard it said that music, art, and PE are the only reason some children even want to attend school everyday. I have found this to be true so often in my classroom. I see students that may struggle in other academic areas but shine like stars when they enter the music room and the joy they exude is impossible to ignore.\r\n With this project, my intention was to bring another avenue of music education into my classroom. We already learn and perform material vocally and we use percussion instruments regularly as well. In this case however, I wanted to expand my students instrumental playing into areas beyond simply rhythm and percussion. My hope was to teach them how to use instruments that require harmony, melody, and a sense of ensemble playing. \r\n We are in the beginning stages of implementing the ukuleles in classroom instruction, but I've already had the opportunity to use them in my early childhood instruction and the impact was wonderful. I got to see my youngest students put their hands around a new instrument and watch their eyes light up as they were able to create those sounds for the first time. It is an experience like no other. One of my favorites things to say in my classroom or at my concerts is \"Any one can be present to see the result of a students musical journey, but I am lucky enough to be there at the beginning and see those first steps.\"\r\n Thank you for allowing me every opportunity to give those first steps to my students in any way that I can. Your support means the world to this classroom and these students.","fullyFundedDate":1760693817629,"projectUrl":"project/strum-sing-and-shine/9606172/","projectTitle":"Strum, Sing, and Shine!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Schmidt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3046946_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1471128308548","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/schmidtmusic"},{"teacherId":8314127,"projectId":9685867,"letterContent":"Thank you for making this amazing project possible. We have been using the glue and slime-reactive materials to explore science through hands-on experiments. The students absolutely loved making slime and learning about how different ingredients react together to form new textures. We also used the paints and art supplies for creative projects, which gave students the freedom to express themselves in new ways. One of our favorite moments was working together to open and organize the art shelf. The students felt so proud to help set up the new materials for our classroom. The students were beyond excited when the materials arrived! Their faces lit up, and they couldn't wait to dig in and start creating. The room was full of energy and happy chatter as they explored each new item. Our next step is to continue exploring science with more experiments using the materials, connecting them to lessons about matter and reactions. We also plan to use the art supplies for a class project where students will combine what they've learned in science with creative expression. They will be making posters and models to share their discoveries. These resources have opened the door for both scientific curiosity and artistic exploration, and we are excited to keep building on that momentum.","fullyFundedDate":1746464413571,"projectUrl":"project/brushing-up-on-creativity-in-2nd-grade/9161531/","projectTitle":"Brushing Up on Creativity in 2nd Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Surber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6839635_orig.jpg?crop=530,530,x0,y106&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1569109330182","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6839635"},{"teacherId":8314127,"projectId":9490224,"letterContent":"Your generosity has made this engaging project possible.
