We could all use a little pick-me-up sometimes and this is a great way to do it! I also give each of my students a card and keychain when it is their birthday and you would be surprised with how much they appreciate it. My students are always so surprised and excited when they realize that someone knows it's their birthday and they get a card! For example, I gave one of my students a birthday card and keychain yesterday. Her face was so shocked when I gave it to her and she had the biggest smile! She told me thank you 3 different times and that she has never had a teacher write her a birthday card. That was music to my ears! \r\n\r\nI will continue to use these resources throughout the entire school year for all of my students and I am so excited about it! Sometimes it's the small things in life that make big differences. Children learn best through play and the funding of this project has allowed just that! The students I work with this year are more engaged in the speech classroom, learning, and having so much fun. In addition, all the students I work with have developmental delays and this population of children usually also have sensory issues and motor difficulties. The slide and obstacle course has allowed them to gain confidence in moving their bodies while also following directions involving spatial concepts (go over the stones, across the bridge, down the slide, etc.). \r\n\r\nWith the use of the talking tiles in the special education classroom children have learned to push the button to make requests (\"More please\", \"open\") and label actions (\"go\"). Many of the children I work with are non verbal and this has opened the door to give them a voice. \r\n\r\nI am so excited to see how your generosity will impact my students for the remainder of the year.
