With the items from this DonorsChoose project, including playground balls, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, scoop ball games, catch games, and jump ropes, I refreshed our recess cart and provide my second-grade students with more opportunities for active play, teamwork, and fun!\r\n\r\nRunning, jumping, throwing, catching, and coordinating movements help children develop gross motor skills, balance, coordination, and endurance. Having a variety of equipment available will encourage students to participate in movement rather than spend recess without an activity. \r\n\r\nThe impact of these materials have extended beyond recess. When students have opportunities to release energy, practice cooperation, and develop friendships, they can return to the classroom feeling refreshed and ready to focus. The social skills they practice on the playground also carry over into classroom discussions, group projects, and everyday interactions.\r\n\r\nBecause these supplies will be used by students throughout the school year and in future years, this project will provide lasting benefits for our classroom community.
