Since introducing them, I've noticed that students are more engaged in reading and are genuinely excited to spend time with their books.\r\n\r\nThese texts help students develop critical reading skills that go beyond basic comprehension. They practice close reading, making inferences, analyzing character motivations, and identifying themes that connect literature to real-world issues. Many of the books also spark meaningful discussions about complex moral questions, encouraging students to think deeply and support their ideas with evidence from the text.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom has become an active, student-centered experience. Students choose comfortable spots, annotate passages, and often pause to reflect or quietly discuss moments from the text with a peer. Instead of reading feeling like a task to \"get through,\" it has become a routine students look forward to, and the classroom atmosphere during reading time is calmer and more focused than ever.\r\n\r\nI've also seen particular students who were previously reluctant readers become deeply engaged. Some are reading entire books for the first time, while others are asking to continue reading beyond class. A few students who rarely participated in discussions are now eager to share insights or recommend books to classmates. Watching students grow in both confidence and enthusiasm for reading has been incredibly rewarding.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our classroom and helping make these experiences possible for our students. Your generosity truly makes a difference in fostering a love of reading and learning.","fullyFundedDate":1762188847463,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-library-for-reluctant-readers/9617131/","projectTitle":"Classroom Library for Reluctant Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gassmann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7946884_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y220&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1684423322187","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsgsenglishclass"},{"teacherId":8435626,"projectId":9290107,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity. My students are so pleased with their own personal journals. My students write in them daily. I feel like it is very important for students to come up with their own voice and these journals help them to achieve that. The boxes of pencils have been incredibly useful, especially as the school year goes on! Everyone has a pencil on the first day, but as time goes on they somehow disappear. \r\n\r\nThe art supplies have helped with many creative English activities. We just started \"Night\" by Elie Wiesel and I like to do a one-pager assignment at the end of this unit which will require many art supplies.
