The entire month of November was spent learning about gratitude and appreciation for the things that we have. With this Foodie Fun Friday, we culminated what we had been learning about thr entire month. It takes a village to help a child develop and you are absolutely helping by giving them the tools to help them calm down.\r\nKindergarten students have big feelings and tend to get emotional over simple things. Having tools to help them calm down is a valuable tool! The calming Koala bear has been the biggest hit. It glows multiple colors and helps with breathing patterns. I have used it whole group, small group and with individual students. The light covers have also help town down the brightness and seem to have a very soothing affect, especially in the morning! Our students love building. They love creating things and recreating new things. What makes this so perfect is that Kindergarten students need lots of work with fine motor skills, so having building blocks, magnets and building bricks makes all of this work together. My students have personally been seeing how long they could build things, what shapes they could make and how how tall they can make it before it falls. So they have been experimenting with the materials, which works on fine motor skills and creativity without them even knowing! We have been blessed to have such awesome and generous supporters throughout the years. As things get more expensive, it's important to still be able to have basic materials for learning. Most of my students come from low income households and it's hard on them to provide basic things. Kindergarten students fo through pencils like crazy. So having sharpened pencils is amazing!! I have had to resharpen them, but at least they were resharpened! I used the colored paper and laminating pouches for center materials to make them sturdier, so they'd last longer. They can also write on them and erase , using them again and again. Kindergarten students love art, any type of art. We have been fortunate to have used alot of the inside art supplies so far and the kids love them. They have used the wiki sticks to build the letter, number and shape of the week. They also used them with the cool animal cards. They have used the dobbers for creating art, phonics pages and stamping numbers. They have used the colored sticks for building letters, numbers, shapes and all beginning to spell their names. Last week they even used them to build Stem towers. Now that the weather will be cooling off, we will hopefully be using our outdoor supplies. We have had one buddy bench for a couple of years and desperately needed two because we do not have enough outside seating. Our kids were so excited to not only get another buddy bench, bit to also finally have it put together so they could enjoy it with their friends. As soon as another class came out today one of my students asked another student, who seemed lonely, to come and join them on the buddy bench! This makes my heart so happy!! They truly are getting it. They understand what it means to be kind in a world that is not always kind. From scientific experiments, to making popcorn of all different kinds, our kids get to make a new type of food or snack based on the letter of the week. Some times it's as simple as an ABC necklace with alphabet cereal, sometimes we use with make caramel popcorn by adding caramel to our popcorn machine. Each activity brings on new experiences, excitements and new fun engaging lessons.
